Job Summary
The Director Quality Engineering is a member of Acuity’s Supply Chain Manufacturing Team, reporting to VP Supply Operations, overseeing all aspects of quality control within the organization. This position will lead the Quality Strategy Development process to ensure a comprehensive strategy aligns with the company’s business goals and objectives.
This includes developing and implementing quality control standards and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations while partnering with the Manufacturing and other Quality leaders to drive improvements in Safety, Quality, Compliance, financial performance, employee development, customer satisfaction, and digital and continuous improvement initiatives consistent with the plant strategic plan. The incumbent will uphold Acuity’s Better, Smarter, Faster model and be a steward of our Company Values.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Responsible for managing, developing, and implementing compliant processes to ensure the highest level of product quality.
- Supports Operations and other internal cross-functional departments to identify improvement in current processes related to production and quality performance.
- Oversee the quality assurance teams, including hiring, training, and performance management, to ensure effective and efficient execution of the quality programs and processes.
- Ensures compliance with internal standards - investigates quality non-conformances and provides and executes corrective action to internal and external stake-holders.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations, staying current with any changes or updates.
- Regularly communicates externally with client quality contacts regarding production quality issues including non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Periodically reviews the suitability and effectiveness of the quality control system with senior management.
- Identifies and manages continuous improvement projects that may span multiple sections or departments to achieve quality, reliability, and cost improvements.
- Develops budget and ensures adherence to the budget.
- Manages overall coaching, training, development, and succession plans for the team.
Skills and Minimum Experience Required
- Education: BS degree, preferably in science, engineering, or other related technical field. 10+ years of related experience with 7+ in a management role.
- Experience in running a large-scale, multi-function organization.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to quality control.
- Knowledge of FMEA, LEAN, Good Data and Documentation Practices (GDDP), and application of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). Knowledge of data analytics and Lean / Six Sigma concepts preferred.
- Manages customer audits and other pre-inspection readiness audits.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Works with multifunctional, global teams in a fast-paced setting, as well as builds strong relationships across the organization and influences critical decisions.
- Strong leadership skills and demonstrated success in managing a large team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the organization.
- Strong understanding of Quality Management Systems, methodologies and best practices.
- Ability to manage department budgets and staffing.
- Result-driven with ideas to drive continuous improvement and process simplification with breakthrough solutions, including digital.
- Challenges the status quo to drive continuous improvement and enhancements to operations in the Quality Control Department.
Travel Requirements
- Travel – 25%+ (will travel to various U.S. and Mexico locations - considerable time will be spent in Atlanta, GA)
