Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to Financial Controller, the Project Accountant is responsible for providing financial and administrative services in order to ensure effective, efficient, and accurate financial and administrative operations.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Financial Service Delivery/Management: 

  • Prepares monthly and other standard and adjusting journal entries.
  • Executes online fund transfers as per instructions.
  • Reconciles bank statements monthly, addressing any discrepancies promptly.
  • Prepares loan reconciliations. 
  • Assists with the managing of online banking platforms.
  • Assists with creation and setup of projects in alignment with contractual agreement and terms.
  • Supports maintenance of the project module within the accounting system.
  • Gathers and compiles data to support project reporting, reconciliation, and analysis.
  • Supports account payable and receivables analysts, and operational management, in day-to-day operation.  
  • Assists with the development and implementation of accounting procedures for business entities. 
  • Assists with the implementation and integration of HR and Payroll Systems into the financial operations. 
  • Assists with the preparation and timely filing of WCB and related records.
  • Prepares GST and other regulatory filings.
  • Prepares year-end adjusting entries and accruals. 
  • Assists in reconciliations, including GL and accruals. 
  • Contributes to updating the financial policies and procedures manual, aligning with current practices and regulations.
  • Identifies and recommends improvements to accounting processes, incorporating best practices.
  • Maintains an organized and efficient filing system for all relevant documents, including contracts and agreements.
  • Performs general office administration tasks, including photocopy, mailing, and filing, to support the smooth operations.
  • Assists with Payroll duties as assigned.
  • Serves as a backup for AR and AP functions, providing support and coverage to ensure uninterrupted operations.
  • Performs ad hoc analysis and supports special projects as required.
  • Other duties as assigned/required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Required:

  • Postsecondary education in Accounting and/or Business Administration or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of related experience in administrative support, accounts receivable/payable, payroll and general bookkeeping, taxation, etc. 
  • Previous experience with budget, accounting and reporting systems.
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of accounts receivable and payable functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Proven accuracy and speed in mathematical computations.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.  
  • Must have valid driver license (BC Class 5) and proof of satisfactory driving record.
  • Criminal records check (vulnerable sector).

 

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or organization.


WORKING CONDITINS:

Physical Demands 

• Significant desk work with long periods of manual dexterity (keyboard operations, filing).

• Work long hours or evenings/weekends during peak season (monthly/annual budgeting and planning).

 

Mental Focus 

· Required to manage a number of requests and situations at one time.  The office may be noisy and busy making it difficult to concentrate

· Stress may be caused by tight deadlines, the variety of tasks and the volume of the workload at certain times of the year.  This could cause some stress when attempting to prioritize tasks and deal with multiple staff at the same time.


\Environmental Conditions 

· Work is performed primarily remote/in office.

· Typically work is in a comfortable office environment. May be noisy at times.
