Job Summary
As a key contributing member within the Services, Arrays, and Genomics Access (SAGA) team, you will identify and execute partnership opportunities with leading pharmaceutical companies that can utilize Illumina diagnostic technologies to help accelerate and de-risk their drug development programs. You will also play a key role in growing the clinical business via partnerships across pharma development functions including development and commercial teams. You will collaborate with other Illumina leaders across Commercial, Finance, Legal, Product Development, Marketing, Clinical and Regulatory groups to create budgets, timelines and contracts that will result in meeting business and corporate objectives important to the field of precision medicine. You will partner with other SAGA members to formulate current and long-range plans, objectives and policies in line with Illumina’s strategic imperatives. This role requires a self-starter with a strong rolodex, proven revenue-generating skills, strategic planning, market development and ability to execute a multiyear business development strategy.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Business Development process in the area of therapy-related diagnostics, including the evaluation of new business opportunities and negotiation of customer agreements associated with companion diagnostics.
- Be responsible for delivering on major business and revenue objectives.
- Leverage a network of contacts with functional leaders across leading pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies to identify new strategic partnership opportunities.
- Nurture partnership leads from developing and presenting pitch decks to leveraging internal functional subject matter experts to guide the potential partner through the evaluation process.
- Work with functional leaders across the company to develop CDx development and commercialization strategies and processes, while growing business opportunities with new and existing partnerships.
- Implement and lead key business development processes to include proposal development, pricing strategies, term sheets, and negotiation of contract terms, commercial terms, and other partnership legal documents.
- Analyze industry dynamics and the competitive landscape and identify opportunities for expansion in key regions.
- Mentor junior members of the biopharma team.

Requirements
- 15+ years of in-depth commercial, alliance management, product management, business development and/or strategic marketing in a related industry
- Experience within the intersection of Pharmaceutical and Diagnostics collaboration experience highly preferred
- Network of key technical and business leaders in the pharmaceutical and life science industry
- Strong business acumen and a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain professional and personal relationships with key business partners and customers positively impacting business growth
- Excellent communication, teambuilding, and leadership skills
- Excellent presentation and analytical skills
- Demonstrated success working in a global, highly matrixed environment with the ability to influence without direct authority
- Proven track record of effectively driving large scale initiatives from a business and cultural standpoint
- Ability to combine both scientific and commercial knowledge to meet customer needs.
- Ability to clearly and effectively articulate complex concepts.
- Effective negotiation skills

The estimated base salary range for the Associate Director, Biopharma Business Development role based in the United States of America is: $167,200 - $250,800. Should the level or location of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable base pay range may be updated accordingly. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s qualifications, location where the role is to be performed, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Additionally, all employees are eligible for one of our variable cash programs (bonus or commission) and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
