Role Purpose

​Responsible for the procurement and acquisition of goods and services that deliver short-term procurement value and work to enhance processes and drive efficiency. Consult and advise business units or functions on the acquisition of goods and services of basic to moderate complexity across one or multiple categories.

Ensure the Practice has an uninterrupted supply of goods, services and equipment at the lowest overall demonstrated cost and to develop, foster and maintain effective communication and relationships with all internal and external customers. Participates in the development, implementation, managing and monitoring of world class supply network practices ensuring the best value to the organization.

Fulfill responsibilities through proactive problem solving and communication skills, a focus on the internal customer, and contributing to our Mars Petcare purpose of a better world for pets.

Essential Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships across MVH Commercial and business unit stakeholders to ensure alignment on all aspects of assigned categories to include prioritization, contract renewals, catalog management, benchmarking and industry research to achieve defined business goals.
  • Review contract pipeline and catalogs for assigned categories and consult with Sourcing and the business units to determine any needed action or management of supplier relationships.
  • Participate in ongoing purchasing process improvement efforts; evaluate and recommend best purchasing methods (formal and informal bid processes, purchase orders, disbursements, procurement cards, etc.).
  • Interpret and evaluate contract provisions, conduct research on requirements, evaluate findings, and make recommendations.
  • Conduct spend, internal and market analysis, preparing, coordinating and conducting negotiations.
  • Compare quotes with the specifications and availability of goods and services, placing practice wide orders accordingly.
  • Manage day-to-day purchasing requirements, supplier returns, product recalls, and handle contract-related issues to develop a lean end-to-end supply chain.
  • Support daily operations for hospitals and source small spends through contract negotiations and PO creation.
  • Perform spend analysis, support sourcing strategies, and assess business needs, market conditions, and supplier capabilities.
  • Prepare accurate purchase orders, ensure policy compliance, and act as a liaison with distributors and stakeholders.
  • Lead implementation for assigned commodities, maintain business relationships, and drive operational improvements.
  • Evaluate purchasing methods and assist with bids, RFPs, and team meetings.
  • Partner across MVH Commercial for item and service implementation, supplier enablement, and commodity assignment. 
  • Other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work at a computer for long periods of time. 
  • Project timelines and work volume/deadlines may often require more than 40 hours per week to complete essential duties of this job.
  • Must have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics and language ability (reading, writing, and speaking the English language) to perform the duties proficiently.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and to solve problems involving several variables.
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate necessary equipment.
  • The noise level in the work environment is normally moderate.
  • Environment where pets are present.

Experience, Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in ​Supply Chain & Logistics, Business Administration, Finance/Accounting or other business field is preferred, or the equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • ​​3 ​years of experience required ​relevant professional experience with understanding of the purchasing cycle & buying process required. ​
  • ​​A knowledge of purchasing regulations, legal compliance, policies and procedures is required with demonstrated advanced negotiations, contract and sourcing skills is preferred.​
  • An ability to understand and interpret key financial statements and components of ROTA is preferred.
  • ISM certification and understanding is preferred.​​ 
  • Health care background (veterinary or human healthcare, pharmaceutical, etc.) is preferred.
