Job description

Grove Collaborative is seeking a creative leader responsible for overseeing the visual and conceptual design of our Owned Brands Packaging. This role will play a pivotal role in defining, elevating and evolving the Grove Co. brands. The key focus for this role will be creating innovative packaging designs, creative concepts and brand assets that resonate with sustainably minded consumers on our direct-to-consumer (DTC) platform. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams and external partners—including marketing, brand, packaging, printers, vendors/manufacturers, and operations—this role will help shape the future of a brand committed to transforming the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry for the better.

We have a newly launched award winning packaging rebrand, a refreshed fragrance strategy, ambitious sustainability goals and a jam-packed pipeline to deliver. We are looking for someone who has the strategic mindset to help extend our new design style to more of our product lines, develop winning concepts for new product lines, and the can-do attitude to execute.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Creative Leadership:
  • Lead the design and creative direction for the packaging of Grove’s Owned Brands product portfolio
  • Concept development and creative direction for category expansion by creating contemporary and relevant packaging systems and brand statements

  • Design Development: 
  • Develop packaging from concept to production, clearly communicating product strategy and features
  • Ensure packaging aligns with product design, marketing strategies, and sustainability goals

  • Project Management + Collaboration: 
  • Assist the Creative Project Manager in managing external resources, including illustrators, photo retouchers, production artists, designers, and agency partners
  • Communicate with vendor partners to maintain quality and integrity from product development through production
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create marketing assets to be used across channels

  • ABOUT YOU
  • Education:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Graphic Design, Fine Arts, Industrial Design, or a related field

  • Experience: 
  • 8+ years of experience in design, preferably in a senior or leadership role, with at least 3 years of experience focused on packaging design (REQUIRED)
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering innovative packaging designs and systems across a range of product categories, experience in Direct-to-Consumers brands a plus! 
  • Experience managing teams and delegating tasks

  • Skills:
  • Expertise in design software – primarily, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Strong understanding of color theory, typography, and composition
  • Ability to conceptualize creative ideas and translate them into beautiful, functional, compelling design solutions
  • Deep understanding of printing processes, packaging materials, and manufacturing techniques
  • Demonstrated experience developing products that are manufactured with many different substrates such as aluminum, tin, corrugate, kraft, glass, etc.
  • Strong collaboration, leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to articulate design strategy and concepts to internal stakeholders
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects concurrently, with tight deadline
  • Experience with CGI production is a plus

  • Strong passion for packaging design, with bonus points for knowledge or interest in sustainable design practices
  • Up-to-date on current trends in graphic production, packaging innovation, advertising, lifestyle, technology, entertainment, and social media
  • Highly creative and detail-oriented
  • Ability to think strategically and solve complex design problems
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to jump in, take initiative, and lend a hand on any task, big or small
