Job Description:
Economic Development Consultants are on the frontline of efforts to grow Nebraska and provide better work opportunities to the citizens of the state. Working in Economic Development at the State is incredibly rewarding on both personal and professional levels. This position will primarily focus on the northeast region of the state however will also assist the Field Operations Team with projects and events statewide. This position will serve as a professional business development consultant and liaison to communities throughout the region and Nebraska. This position leads our agency in Business Retention and Expansion efforts working alongside a variety of existing businesses and economic development partners.
This position will have a remote office in the region that includes the counties of Antelope, Boone, Burt, Cedar, Colfax, Cuming, Dakota, Dixon, Knox, Madison, Nance, Pierce, Platte, Stanton, Thurston and Wayne.

Job Duties: Primary work responsibilities will include providing technical assistance for business start-up, expansion, and business ownership transition, along with assessing workforce and talent attraction needs and making referrals as appropriate. The position maintains a working knowledge of partner programs for business referrals and coordinating with local, regional, state, and federal agencies. This position plays an important role in explaining state incentive programs, workforce programs and other state and federal business incentive programs to existing businesses and business prospects new to our State. Team members provide the important role of providing technical support to new companies locating in our state which may include assisting with business location information and site visits. Position provides assistance to existing companies looking to expand within the state. This position will assist with evaluating the status and viability of business prospects and provide agency leadership with recommendations pertaining to the business prospect’s location and/or expansion project. The day-to-day work is primarily business development driven, although community and housing development liaison work is also an important aspect of the position. This position will work with community leaders, local and regional economic development organizations, and the public at large in explaining and delivering programs administered by the Department and making referrals to other teams as well as other local, state and federal programs and resource providers. This position will also work across other agency teams including our Business Recruitment, Incentive, Talent, Innovation, Community Development and Housing Teams. Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline related to the work assigned and three years of related experience. Experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: An advanced degree in economics, business, public administration, community or regional planning, marketing, and/or a related field or significant work experience in economic development or business.
Other: This position requires weekly in state travel; occasional out of state for trainings with some overnight stays. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver’s license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
