Macquarie University is seeking atalented and experienced Lead Hardware Engineer to oversee and lead the delivery of semiconductor and technology projects. This is a fabulous opportunity to join the newly established Silicon Platforms Lab (SiP Lab) within the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Macquarie University.

In this role, you will enhance both your skills and the reputation of the SiP Lab team. You will lead a hardware team in developing advanced wireless and sensing platforms and oversee the delivery of semiconductor and technology projects.

What you’ll do as a Lead Engineer in the SiP Lab

  • Lead and drive the SiP Lab project team ensuring that project deliverable milestones are met within timeframes and budget.

  • Lead the progression of engineering designs from concept to production including design, manufacturing, testing, pre-production validation and documentation.

  • Innovate as a technology leader, pushing the state-of-the-art in the context of engineering in industry - specific areas of leadership include Systems design, Hardware and IC design, IC packaging and assembly, Silicon measurement, and EDA/CAD tools.

  • Liaise with major manufacturers around the world and with our Industry partner Atto Devices’ to resolve barriers and progress the designs.

  • Lead a hardware team developing advanced wireless and sensing hardware platforms. This includes the design and implementation of advanced hardware platforms including mixed-signal, high speed digital, FPGAs, optical, RF and analogue components.

  • Lead the development of advanced system in package and heterogenous integrated solutions.

  • Ensure the quality, DFM and reliability of hardware designs. 

  • Work with third parties to support the manufacture and testing of hardware platforms.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering offers both undergraduate and postgraduate Degree programs across a diverse range of disciplines. The Faculty is also home to a number of world-class research centres. The Faculty continues to grow links with industry by building partnerships with commercial, government, cultural and professional organisations.

The SiP Lab is a newly formed, advanced hardware platforms and silicon chip design lab with advanced silicon system-on-chip (SoC) / system-in-package (SiP) capabilities. The research focuses on key semiconductor industry trends in communications and sensing, as well as partnering with adjacent research teams across the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the wider University to integrate their own novel IP onto a silicon platform, with benefits anticipated in the fields of synthetic biology, photonics, and quantum technologies.
