With general supervision, prepares federal and state income tax returns, other tax returns, and estimated tax payments. Prepares tax provisions and workpapers and interfaces with external and internal auditors. Performs analysis and research involving tax issues.
Assists with preparation of federal and state income, sales and use, and premium tax returns, files extensions, pays estimated taxes, and tax correspondence for multiple companies in multiple jurisdictions, coordinates tax return preparation with outside preparer
Acts as liaison with external auditors to provide tax return, accounting information, documentation, and answer questions and resolve reporting issues
Acts as liaison with internal audit for controls testing
Prepares tax provision workpapers and drafts tax footnotes for financial reporting purposes
Coordinates and handles routine tax audits conducted by different states, onsite and by mail
Documents, reconciles, and maintains accurate records to support book/tax accounting decisions and statements
Prepares documentation necessary to support audits on various taxes by multiple jurisdictions
Maintains and implements tax return software
Performs analysis and research issues regarding taxes, including premium tax, sales and use tax, and other miscellaneous state assessments
Performs all other duties as assigned
Job Specifications
Typically has the following skills or abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in Tax, Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent experience
4+ years of technical and theoretical background in U.S. GAAP, including accounting for income tax
4+ years of tax related experience, including federal and state income tax for a corporation
Ability to conduct various types of analysis, provide alternatives and make recommendations
Proficient in spreadsheet applications (specifically MS Excel) and accounting systems
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong willingness to learn, share knowledge, accept responsibility, handle multiple tasks concurrently
Clean credit history as reported by credit report
Preferred Skills:
- Experience preparing large, consolidated C-Corporation tax returns.
- Solid understanding of ASC 740 accounting for income taxes including calculation of current and deferred taxes and reconciliation of tax accounts
- Experience with Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE Income Tax and Tax Provision preferred.

Compensation range for the role is listed below. Applicable salary ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Salary Ranges: $60,000.00 - $103,500.00
