As an R&D Analog Hardware System Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for all aspects of electronics design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of MAXUM process Gas Chromatographs (GCs). You will work with a cross functional team, reporting to the R&D director.
In this role you will
Develop process instrument detectors, interface modules, processing functions, displays, network devices and associated systems. Design, develop, test and modify complex analog and digital electronic printed circuit boards and modules for process analyzers (new and existing product lines). Coordinate with software development group for design and test of embedded solutions. Mentor and provide technical direction of team members and production support personnel. Guide certification of the electrical portions of the product (safety, EMC, environmental). Helps set new directions for the GC product. Lead small design teams.
Expectations
Candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter who can work with a high level of independence without day-to-day direction while staying closely connected with a local/remote/international team. Individual must be able to communicate effectively via e-mail, phone and remote meeting platforms (MS Teams).
The Maxum Gas Chromatograph is a complex instrument that has many functions such as low-level measurements, pressure control, temperature control as well as digital processing on multiple processors and digital communication. The person in this role is responsible for all these electronic functions. However, it is recognized that the key skill is a deep understanding, experience, and preference of analog circuits.
Special Requirements
• Specialization in system level design of highly sensitive measurement or process instruments or systems with similar complexity. Must have experience with equipment that strongly incorporates analog measurements.
• Cross disciplined in electrical, mechanical and physics/chemistry.
• Innovative ability in analog, digital PCB and FPGA design
• Hands on experience with design, PCB layout, prototyping, troubleshooting and manufacturing of electronic printed circuit boards.
• Intrinsic Safety Design. NRTL, IECEx and ATEX background
Additional Skills
• Familiarity with Altium/Protel design or similar schematic/PCB tools.
• Experience in FPGA design
• Knowledge in mechanical engineering (materials, fluid/heat flow) or physics/chemistry a plus
General Requirements
• 10+ years of experience in Hardware/System Design.
• BSEE from an accredited university program.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to write and present very thorough analysis and reports for internal documentation as well as for safety certification.
• Ability to recognize opportunities, propose a project, and implement the result.
• Good understanding of physics and mechanical (non-electrical) aspects of a product and its application.
• Up to 10% travel required, some of it may be international.
The position will be primarily in the Houston, Texas area.
