Park housing may be available at certain parks.

  • Enforce Missouri state laws and state park rules and regulations by use of citations, warnings, and custodial arrests.
  • Patrol assigned areas within a state park/historic site
  • Provide security and protection for property, visitors, and staff
  • Provide assistance to visitors as needed
  • Respond or and conduct investigations, make arrests, seize property or contraband and prepare related reports and forms.
  • This position will require working shifts on nights, weekends, and holidays

Licensure as a Peace Officer in accordance with the requirements established by the State of Missouri required at the time of employment.

AND

To be successful in this position, a candidate will need the following skills:

  • Criminal Law: Knowledge of state and Federal criminal laws, including procedures, regulations, guidelines, and precedents related to admissibility of evidence and prosecution.
  • Arrest: Knowledge of the laws, principles, and procedures used in apprehending a criminal suspect, including polices for pursuit and proper use of force and capture such as Miranda rights.
  • Personnel Security and Safety: Knowledge of methods and controls of personnel, public safety, and security operations; investigation and inspection techniques; or rules, regulations, precautions, and prevention techniques for the protection of people, data, or property
  • Public Safety and Security: Knowledge of military, weaponry, and intelligence operations; public safety and security operations; occupational health and safety; investigation and inspection techniques; or rules, regulations, precautions, and prevention techniques for the protection of people, data, and property
  • Restraint and Self-defense: Knowledge of techniques and methods used to restrain hostile individuals, including the models and guidelines on appropriate level and nature of force for self-defense.

Equivalent To Those Typically Gained By

  • Completion of a training program from a certified law enforcement-training academy, eligibility to be commissioned as a peace officer, and 1-3 years of law enforcement experience is preferred. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience)
  • Ability to initially and annually demonstrate the level of physical fitness deemed necessary to perform the essential functions of the job through successful completion of a fit-for-duty assessment.   • Ability to pass a background investigation administered by Missouri State Parks
  • Ability to pass a medical examination, a visual examination with eyesight corrected to 20/40, and a psychological evaluation as prescribed by the Missouri State Parks after a conditional offer of appointment is made
  • Possession of a valid Missouri vehicle operator’s license appropriate for vehicle assignment

Must live within one hour of the assigned park location.
