Job description

Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Claims Practice Leader!

About The Role

In this role, you will be responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing management of claim strategy, processes, and supporting tools within the Disability (STD/LTD) area of claims. You will lead improvement initiatives, mentor others, and support business growth by ensuring a differentiating customer experience and presenting our value proposition story to prospective and in-force customers.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with internal/external customers, claim teams and benchmark against the industry to identify enhancement opportunities.
  • Facilitate dialogue with necessary parties to determine most important areas of focus.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for product improvement.
  • Lead initiatives, ensure requirements are well defined and that solution designs will deliver expected results.
  • Ensure smooth implementation of changes by using the proper project oversight tools, change management discipline and organizational readiness practices.
  • Ensure impacted business areas and customer constituents are fully advised of changes.
  • Maintain strong communication with Legal and Compliance areas to ensure that all claim practices are consistent with state and federal regulations.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to unit managers, team leaders and front-line staff on complex issues as needed.
  • Represent claims in contributing to development of marketing and other client facing content.
  • Assist in responding to complex customer information requests.
  • Identify and articulate customization requirements based individual client requests.
  • Participate in Finalist presentations, as required.

Compensation

Salary Range: $75,300 - $125,600 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience with a High School Diploma/GED required.
  • 7 years of experience in a claims management role dealing with group life and disability insurance products (STD/LTD) required.
  • 5 years of absence management experience preferred.
  • Able to read, understand and apply disability contract language.
  • Knowledge of state and federal claim and leave regulations, and medical disability management terms.
  • CLMS designation preferred.
  • Possess or able to acquire a New York State Adjusters License is helpful.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Great presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong organizational, time management and project management skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Works effectively in a team environment.
  • Proven change management skills.
