Job Summary

The Instructional Designer creates, develops, and updates training courses and materials for the Operations Department of WellSense Health Plan. This individual works closely with business partners, subject matter experts, and key stakeholders to develop engaging and effective learning. This position is ideal for someone with a foundation in technical writing or training who is looking to grow their instructional design skillset. The position requires a self-starter with strong communication and presentation skills and an emerging understanding of instructional design methodologies and processes.

Key Functions/Responsibilities

  • Create project plans and regularly provide project status reports.
  • Use instructional design knowledge to design and develop effective and engaging training materials that meet learning objectives and performance metrics.
  • Develop effective knowledge checks and assessments to support learning objectives, report results, and identify changes and enhancements based on data.
  • Implement ongoing monitoring to evaluate the effectiveness of training content.
  • Create training course inventory and regularly conduct content reviews to ensure that modules are effective, incorporate adult learning strategies and virtual interaction, and that the materials are in alignment with course requirements.
  • Curate learning objectives and assessments that accurately target and measure desired learner outcomes.
  • Assist in developing internal tools, resources, and processes, to continually improve the Training, Documentation, and Quality team and its workflows.
  • Develop training content in a variety of learning formats (instructor-led training, eLearning, etc.)
  • Facilitate train the trainer sessions for new course content and act as support during the initial rollout of new training materials.
  • Create training communications that can be sent to front-end users to provide in-the-moment learning.
  • Work cross-functionally and develop relationships with business partners, subject matter experts, and key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with key partners and subject-matter experts to establish learning outcomes, complete projects, implement feedback, and apply instructional design standards and criteria.
  • Understand and promote the mission, vision, and values of WellSense Health Plan both in the workplace and in the community.
  • Expected to take on and complete other assignments outside of the regular duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience is mandatory; Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Required Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in instructional design with a basic understanding of adult learning principles.
  • 3-5 years of experience in training, technical writing, or equivalent field.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft products (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OneNote, and SharePoint).
  • Expert-level proficiency in virtual training and meeting applications (Zoom, MS Teams).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation and training facilitation skills.

Preferred/Desirable

  • Possess a strong desire to learn new technologies, the curiosity to figure out how things work, and a passion for improving the learner’s and member’s experience
  • Experience working with health insurance organizations.
  • Intermediate-level proficiency in eLearning authoring tools (Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, and Captivate).
  • Intermediate-level proficiency in video and animation creation/editing tools (Camtasia, Adobe, and Premiere) and graphic design software (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects).
  • Basic knowledge of Learning Management Systems, such as Workday.
