Intern-Biological Safety Data Scientist-Murrysville, PA-Summer 2025

Job Description

Are you interested in an Internship opportunity with Philips? We welcome individuals who are currently pursuing an undergraduate (BS) degree to participate in 3 month paid intern opportunities at our site in Murrysville. Through this role you will gain meaningful, hands-on experience working for a HealthTech company.

Your role:

  • Report to the Manager-Biological Safety Engineering, you will work collaboratively with biological safety engineers, material scientists and toxicologists to support the biocompatibility evaluations of S&RC products throughout their whole lifecycle
  • Assist in the development of biological safety programs through biological risk assessments, testing plans and strategies and interpretation of test results in accordance with ISO 10993, ISO 18562, FDA Guidance, and global regulatory requirements.
  • Support the execution of internal databased aggregating and streamlining historic work
  • Learn from/adhere to internal quality management system and follow current biocompatibility Procedures, Work Instructions, and Forms
  • Participate in biocompatibility training programs, provide weekly project status reports and assist in the development of test plans, evaluation of current data, and systematization of historic data.
  • Report to the Manager-Biological Safety Engineering, you will work collaboratively with biological safety engineers, material scientists and toxicologists to support the biocompatibility evaluations of S&RC products throughout their whole lifecycle

You're the right fit if:

  • You’re currently enrolled in university, pursuing a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, or a closely related field with an emphasis on database development and management or test method design.
  • You have experience with or deep knowledge of medical device design requirements and the risk management process.
  •  You have experience writing new test plans, evaluating results and performing data analysis, creating new databases with complex criteria. Familiarity with toxicological risk assessments is a plus.
  • You have an interest in global medical device regulations/requirements/standards and a commitment to quality. Familiarity with ISO 10993 and ISO 18562 and knowledge of FDA 2024 Guidance Document “Use of International Standard ISO 10993-1” is a plus.
  • You have excellent communication and organization skills. You have a strong ability to work independently with minimal guidance. You can overcome obstacles and provide solutions to complex problems. 
  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.

How we work together

We believe that we are better together than apart. For our office-based teams, this means working in-person at least 3 days per week. Onsite roles require full-time presence in the company’s facilities. Field roles are most effectively done outside of the company’s main facilities, generally at the customers’ or suppliers’ locations.

Philips Transparency Details

The hourly pay range for this position is $25.00 to $28.00, plus overtime eligible. The actual base pay offered may vary within the posted ranges depending on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity.

Company relocation benefits will not be provided for this position.  For this position, you must reside in or within commuting distance to Murrysville.
