Job Description
The Director of Logistics is responsible for planning and managing all aspects of transportation including NA Domestic, International Air and Ocean and Small Parcel freight. This role will also have oversite for third party logistics and it’s day-to-day operations. This individual will take a strategic leadership approach and will be accountable for creating plans to develop and integrate the capabilities of Logistics with overall Corporate Supply Chain and Regional Supply Chain objectives. The Director of Logistics ensures that internal and external customers receive the highest level of service, makes decisions that maximize supply chain performance and cost metrics, and builds a strong work team with a positive work environment.
Key Accountabilities:
- Plan and direct Operational Execution of all aspects of the organization’s International and Domestic inbound, outbound and parcel/LTL transportation & 3PL programs:
- Develop, direct, and ensure the execution of the Company’s overall transportation operations, programs, and strategy, including planning and forecasting to support current requirements and future growth
- Develop and execute annual transportation budgets.
- Ensure company and carrier compliance with all transportation laws and regulations
- Oversee carrier/provider management programs to ensure service levels are consistently exceeded at the most effective costs
- Perform periodic review of delivery network to maximize proper utilization and reduce transportation costs
- Provide Leadership that maximizes and optimizes resources in support of the company’s goals and objectives
- Recruit, train, mentor and develop an engaged organization that will ensure the highest level of service, productivity, safety, and efficiency.
- Ensure that appropriately aggressive goals and objectives are established and achieved by the team and are in alignment with broader organizational goals
- Translate strategies into specific goals, tactics, action plans, and deliverables for the team.
- Develop operational plan to optimize transportation modes and routing domestic, international and transfer freight
- Create and enforce Freight Policies and Procedures for logistic activities
- Plan or implement material flow management systems to meet requirements
- Implement specific customer requirements, such as internal reporting or customized transportation metrics
- Management of site performance to mutually agreed upon Logistics processes
- Advise Regional Logistics Managers in implementation of cost reduction strategies
- Design models for use in evaluating logistics programs or services
- Develop risk management programs to ensure continuity of supply
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate business systems or processes globally
- Analyze the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, and carriers
- Analyze all aspects of logistics to determine the most cost-effective or efficient means of transporting products or supplies
- Develop KPI’s for Logistic Functions globally
- Achieve cost control, cost reduction, and cost containment structures
- Provide internal logistics training
- Create and manage departmental budget
- Advise in Regional Logistic associate development
- Manage governmental certifications, applications, registrations and licensing
Skills/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and eight (8) to ten (10) years’ experience in related areas of responsibility
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with all levels of employment / management
- Previous Experience in International Logistics
- Superior Analytical and Problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Detail oriented
- Demonstrated ability to work with cross functional teams on an international basis.
