Overview

Socure’s Senior Product & Regulatory Counsel is responsible to provide legal, regulatory and risk mitigation guidance throughout the product development lifecycle, with an emphasis on compliance with consumer protection and privacy requirements and best practices. They will partner with Product, Data Science, Data Acquisition, Product Marketing, Government Relations and related teams, applying a holistic approach aligned with Socure’s overall business objectives and strategies. This role will play an important part in maintaining and burnishing Socure’s reputation as a trusted entity.

The Senior Counsel will report to the Associate General Counsel for Technology, Data, and AI Governance.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Provide pragmatic and proactive guidance to product, data science, data acquisition teams and other Socureans, ensuring our products and services comply with applicable laws and regulatory requirements and support our customers’ regulatory needs. 

  • Become an expert on Socure’s products and features and its  entire product development lifecycle – including data acquisition, feature development, data use and retention, and customer requirements. 

  • Maintain documentation to facilitate efficient and effective implementation of your guidance.

  • Draft terms of use, product policies, and disclosures, and implement related processes in coordination with stakeholders. 

  • Support go-to-market efforts for specific products, regulated industries, specific customers, and general brand awareness campaigns as an SME, providing content for thought leadership.

  • Partner with commercial counsel on novel requirements to be embedded into our contracts and addressed in negotiation playbooks. 

  • Remain up-to-date on relevant industry, consumer protection, privacy, and data security laws and regulations, including those that apply to our varied customer base to the extent that they affect Socure, e.g. FCRA, UDAAP, ECOA, supervisory model risk management, emerging AI governance requirements, and global laws of relevance. 

  • Participate in our privacy and data governance programs, supporting the program lead and our close-knit team on consumer-facing issues, legal interpretations, privacy-by-design implementations, regulatory monitoring, and other aspects of these robust programs.

  • Handle government and regulator discussions, negotiations and disclosures on compliance readiness efforts.

  • Design training and sales enablement resources on key legal issues for general and targeted audiences.

  • Provide ideas and insights into how the company can work within the law to pursue innovation and competitive advantages.

  • Special projects as they may arise in your areas of expertise.

Required Qualifications 
  • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree

  • 5+ years of experience of relevant experience

  • 2+ years of experience in consumer financial services with a strong regulatory compliance and/or litigation background

  • Knowledge and working experience with FCRA, UDAAP, ECOA, consumer privacy laws, and dealing with regulators. Exposure to consumer finance laws and regulations, and/or the fintech industry, is a plus.

  • Outstanding communication and critical thinking skills. You will need to distill complex legal issues clearly and concisely for the C-Suite and other leaders.

  • Excellent organization and prioritization skills. You will need to juggle many important matters and communicate realistic timelines to stakeholders.

  • Self-awareness. This can be an intense place. You’ll need to be comfortable in your own skin to drive toward success while remaining kind, collaborative, and empathetic.

  • Understanding the commitment and hard work involved in working at a successful, fast growing start-up.

  • Experience collaborating across functions, such as with Sales, Finance, Product, and Technology teams.

Salary Disclosure:
Base Salary range: $180,000 - $220,000

This represents the expected salary range for this job requisition. Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on factors including geography, candidate experience and expertise, and other job related factors. Socure's compensation and rewards package for full time roles includes a market competitive salary, equity,  comprehensive benefits, and, for applicable roles, commissions plans or an annual discretionary performance bonus.
