The Role

As an Associate Service Reliability Engineer at Proofpoint you will be an integral part of the Operations team. You will develop an understanding of the various services and applications that come together to deliver Proofpoint’s next generation security products. You will work with cross functional teams in provisioning, maintaining, and scaling our production services and server farms across multiple, world-wide data centers in support of the business in delivering a world class service for our customers. Your day-to-day

• Execute tasks across multiple simultaneous projects

• Undertake continual training and learning for new work items

• Understand and help manage an international 24x7, multi-site production infrastructure powering the Proofpoint services, including deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and security

• Contribute to monitoring, alerting, capacity planning and reporting in the production environment

• Execute Production code releases for existing services and build new services as required

• Work across multiple teams and feedback on tasks, work and planning

• Participate in an on-call rotation and be willing to jump on escalated issues as needed

• Engage in helping plan and prioritize tasks using agile methods

What you bring to the team

• Understanding of operational procedures and appreciation of requirements for running live systems

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Experience with monitoring and alerting systems

• Self-drive and ability to work independently and within and across teams

• Demonstrable adaptability and flexibility in learning about new systems and technologies

• Pragmatic and engaging approach to problem solving and finding solutions

• Interest and familiarity in setting up and running Linux or windows systems

• Familiarity with scripting

• Demonstrable experience working in a high volume, large deployment, multi-datacenter environment

• Interest in and experience of application development using Perl, Python, or Ruby (or other applicable development language)

• Understanding of and experience with industry-standard foundation technologies such as TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, SMTP, and LDAP

• Familiarization with virtualization – KVM, VMware vSphere, ESX, ESXi, and vCenter

• Familiarization and understanding of public cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services and Azure

• Basic understanding of industry-standard operational practices such as change management, incident management, and working in colocation data centers

• Some experience with configuration management such as Puppet or Chef desirable

• Appreciation of load-balancing technologies – F5, Netscaler or similar

• Familiarity of networking including tools, flows and topologies and how these work at a high level

• You will participate in our on-call rotation
