Job Title: Mechanical Engineering Technician, R&D

Department: 6710 – Mechanical & Materials COE

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Overview: 

Insulet provides a fast paced and energetic work environment, where team members develop innovative, customer-focused drug delivery products aimed at meaningfully improving quality of life for those afflicted with chronic diseases.

This position is responsible for supporting the Advanced Technologies / Mechanical Engineering team in the design and development of the next generation Pod mechanical design. This position must be experienced with assembling prototypes, setup & support of development systems, following test procedures, and documenting test results. This position requires close cooperation with members of engineering team to accomplish project objectives.

Responsibilities: 

  • Executes on the procurement, assembly, and test of electromechanical products and systems
  • Uses and/or applies basic principles of electromechanical systems, including some troubleshooting of technical issues with the support of engineering staff
  • Assembles mechanical sub-assemblies’ components; use hand tools and reworking techniques as necessary
  • Sets up and operates basic test equipment to evaluate the performance of electromechanical assemblies under simulated operating conditions
  • Follows detailed procedures, clearly & concisely reporting results
  • Records test data in MS Excel or similar for analysis by other team members
  • Works under regular supervision; follows established directions and uses judgment within defined practices and procedures
  • Performs other duties as necessary

Education and Experience:

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma / GED and 4+ years of relevant experience, or relevant Vocational Technical School diploma / Associates Degree and 2+ years of experience
  • Preferred Skills and Competencies: 
  • Basic mechanical assembly rework using hand tools and power tools (e.g. Dremel, band saw)
  • Lab Test Equipment Proficiency (e.g. Calipers, dial & gauge indicator, tensile/compression test system (Instron), optical metrology systems) preferred
  • Experience with 3D printing, CNC, and other automated prototyping technologies preferred
  • CT/Xray Scan experience preferred
  • Self-starter, detail oriented, and effective verbal/written communicator
  • Ethical, responsible, and data-driven decision making methodology
  • Ability to organize work and judge priorities with guidance
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and reliably report findings
  • Office Software Proficiency (Word, Excel)

Physical Requirements: 

  • Able to lift 20 lbs

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $24.66 - $37.07. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
