American Bancshares Mortgage is seeking a diligent and motivated Mortgage Underwriter to join the team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent phone and communication skills and a value of providing superior customer service to internal and external customers. The Underwriter is responsible for validating income, asset and collateral documents including self-employed tax returns and Condominium documents. The Mortgage Underwriter may be involved in one or several types of mortgage lending to include Conventional, Non-QM, FHA, VA, USDA, etc.

 

 


Job Duties:

  • Reviews and analyzes individual residential mortgage loan requests to determine approval or denial.
  • Reviews financial statements, credit reports, ratios (i.e. Debt ratios, loan-to-value), appraisals, title reports and other relevant file documentation.
  • Validates income and employment information, and value of a borrower's collateral and assets.
  • Reviews submitted files to qualify for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, and USDA (Rural Development) guidelines as per automated findings.
  • Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if conditions meet established investor standards.
  • Ensures that the property specifications and loan terms meet financial institution requirements and government regulations.
  • Ensures compliance with industry standards, state and federal laws and disclosure requirements.
  • Communicates loan decisions to internal lenders, coordinators and/or processors.
  • Documents the reasons for approval or denial of the loan in the loan file.
  • Underwriter will work remotely and may be required to work from the office based on company needs. Advance notice will be provided should this be the case.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

 


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of retail residential recent Mortgage Underwriting Experience (FHA, VA, USDA and Conventional) with strong agency guideline knowledge.
  • Strong working knowledge of USDA.
  • DE, SAR, and LAPP certifications are a plus.
  • Strong working knowledge of ATR/QM Requirements.
  • Encompass LOS experience.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, fluid environment and be held to minimum production standards.
  • High integrity and outstanding work ethic required.
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of compliance and disclosure requirements.
  • Knowledge of closing, post-closing & quality control responsibilities.
  • Preference will go to applicants residing and working EST business hours.
