Job description

For millions of teams working in dozens of industries, day-to-day business gets done on the phone. So why — despite the huge leaps we've taken in design and usability — does most business phone software still look, feel, and act like it was born in the 90s? OpenPhone is changing that.

We’re a new type of business phone with a mission to help people communicate better and be more productive.

We’re backed by Y Combinator and some of the best venture firms around including Tiger Global, Craft Ventures, Slow Ventures, and others. We take pride in providing an exceptional customer experience and a product people love, which is why we’re excited that our customers have rated us the #1 VoIP Provider on G2.

OpenPhone is the modern, sophisticated answer to the clunky, outdated phone systems that have been slowing down businesses for years. With thousands of happy customers and several rounds of funding in just five years, it's safe to say we're onto something big.

About the Role

At OpenPhone, we're looking for a Director of Growth Marketing, Paid who will be responsible for leading our paid marketing and web marketing efforts with our team of full-time employees, contractors, and agencies. OpenPhone is a PLG first company, and the majority of our demand comes inbound. You will play a key role in OpenPhone’s growth, responsible for increasing trials and customers through a deep understanding of paid media across multiple flavors (direct, indirect, brand) and a deep curiosity and passion for reaching our ideal users and speaking to them in a way that they understand. With a strong track record of experimentation and relentless execution, you’ll keep us at the leading edge of driving awareness and adoption through paid activities.

Some of the things you’ll do:

  • Lead and manage our Paid Growth team, including paid advertising, SEM, and web strategy, to drive consistent growth of new customers that aligns with our business goals.
  • Test, iterate, and scale comprehensive paid media campaigns, focusing on SEM, affiliates, podcasts, and more to drive consistent growth of new customers to OpenPhone with strong unit fundamentals.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing, Product, and Design teams to ensure our website meets OpenPhone’s positioning and brand identity while effectively meeting the needs of users.
  • Use analytics and user insights to identify and validate key OpenPhone messaging that addresses customer pain points and fits the proper context of owned or rented channels.
  • Pilot and test innovative marketing channels and initiatives to generate actionable insights and improve portfolio efficiency.
  • Partner with our Marketing, Design, Sales, and Finance teams to create high-performing, evergreen campaigns that align with OpenPhone’s positioning and mission, and drives continued growth.
  • Present key insights and learnings to our Marketing team, leadership, and the broader company to ensure we all learn and grow together.

About you:

  • Subject matter expertise - You have a proven track record of diving in deep and delivering insightful tactics and strategies across various paid programs, including SEM, affiliates, podcasts, direct mail, and OOH.
  • Team builder - You delight in building and growing a team by creating the conditions for them to successfully do work they’re proud of, and enabling them to continue to grow their skillsets and careers.
  • Player coach - You relish the chance to get your hands dirty and do the work, while ensuring that your team is operating effectively alongside you.
  • Impact focused - You understand that while the metric you most directly impact are new customers, it’s not just about growing new customers in the most directly attributable way. You focus on driving a top-line revenue number above all else, and understand how all paid channels and owned touch points (directly attributable or not) fit into that overall picture.
  • User empathy - You consistently think about understanding core buyers - where they spend their time online, what stage of the buying journey they might be in, and what mindsets they’re in those spaces. You use this knowledge to effectively craft memorable messaging that is impactful and effective regardless of the next action.
  • Collaborative - You have a proven track record of working collaboratively with partners across Marketing and other departments. You excel in both leading and participating in cross-functional initiatives, ensuring their success and alignment with shared goals.
  • Data fluency - You regularly analyze data and integrate it into your own tasks as well as your team’s work. You excel at creating and delivering storytelling with data to executives and the broader team.
  • Curious and growth-oriented - You recognize that the trends of paid media are constantly evolving, with new channels emerging and ways of measurement emerging. You strive to stay up-to-date, and are constantly experimenting with new ways to grow new customers as efficiently as possible.
Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is as follow, plus equity and benefits:

SF Bay, Seattle, NYC, and LA: $186,000 - $207,000 USD
All other US Locations: $169,000 - $188,000 USD
Canada: $193,000 - $214,000 CAD

The ranges displayed reflect the target for new hire salaries, and within each range, individual pay is determined by your skills and experience, as well as relevant education. Your recruiter can share more and answer questions about the specific salary range during the hiring process.

Salary is just one component of OpenPhone’s total compensation package. Your total rewards package will include equity, extensive medical coverage, a monthly lifestyle stipend, and a flexible PTO policy.
