Job description

Mize CPAs Inc. was recently named a Top 200 Workplace for 2024 by USA Today! We are a leading regional accounting and IT firm with offices in Topeka and Overland Park, Kansas. Our firm works with clients in a number of industries and has a rapidly growing restaurant and hospitality division that serves clients nationwide.

We are looking for an in-person only Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) Accounting Services Senior Accountant in the Topeka office. Full-time availability is needed, 2250 hours per year. After initial training of approximately 4 - 6 months, a hybrid-remote work schedule can be discussed.

If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have experience compiling monthly financial statements, related schedules, and supplementary information for various clients as assigned.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Complete all steps for the compilation of monthly financial statements; which include balance sheet, income statement, statement of cash flows, and various supplementary schedules, as required
  • Reconcile bank statements, prepare adjusting journal entries, and post to the general ledger
  • Maintain client's depreciation schedules, recording changes in property and equipment, and calculating depreciation and amortization
  • Research general ledger account issues, to include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, inter-company transfers, miscellaneous, etc.
  • Answer questions from the client, client staff, and internal staff regarding payroll, bill pay, sales tax, and other balance sheet accounts
  • Maintain records and general ledger detail using prescribe forms and methods given by the QSR Shareholder and/or Department Manager
  • Communicate with the client or the client's bookkeeper regarding matters of general ledger account coding classification
  • Have efficient knowledge of Mize CPAs Inc.’s accounting systems and be able to train internal staff regarding processes and external clients on uses of electronic media for submitting and delivering monthly information
  • Assist with gathering information for financial and income tax projections including quarterly and year-end tax packets
  • Monitor client adherence to compliance related deadlines such as sales tax, payroll tax, income tax payments, personal property filings, and real estate taxes
  • Keep the QSR Associate Manager and/or Department Manager informed of all important developments in the work assigned. Present any major problems that occur, including all the facts, conclusions, and recommendations. Resolve problems with Associate Manager and/or Department Manager approval
  • Increased workload required during certain times of the month and during the year
  • Ability to work the hours necessary to meet deadlines for work assigned
  • Meet all deadlines for monthly compilations, government reporting, and tax services
  • Occasional same day or overnight travel for meetings and seminars

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • In-office work during training, due to the interaction necessary with trainer; amount of time required will vary based on the individual's experience and abilities
  • Individuals at this level normally have a Master's degree with a major in Accounting or other related business field or equivalent accounting experience
  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in accounting services
  • Strong technical knowledge and skills
  • Proficiency in use of MS Office Suite and accounting or tax software
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Creative problem solving ability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA-eligible
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong project management and team management skills
  • Experience in delivery of quality client service
