About US Private Capital
BlackRock US Private Capital ("USPC") is the team within BlackRock Private Credit focused on providing innovative capital solutions to US middle market companies through directly originated investments that generate attractive risk-adjusted returns. As of December 31, 2023, the team has invested more than $40bn in capital across more than 1,000 transactions over a 23+ year track record, on behalf of a broad slate of global clients.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced private credit investment professional to be responsible for identifying and underwriting new investments and monitoring existing positions. This role will report into US Private Capital leadership and partner with other professionals within the organization. Candidates should have a background in credit investing with the research and modeling skills to underwrite and monitor existing investments. Critical to the individual’s success will be their investment judgment, ability to work constructively with investment partners, willingness to take initiative, resourcefulness, and intellectual curiosity.
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct all aspects of an investment and deal execution, including due diligence, deal structuring, financial modeling, valuation, negotiation, execution and monitoring according to investment guidelines
- Research industries, companies and create detailed financial models to highlight relevant metrics to be used in the investment decision-making process
- Produce quality analysis of company and diligence information to support investment conclusions
- Develop accurate, flexible financial models / scenario analysis
- Preparation of concise, accurate and complete investment memoranda
- Interact with management teams, private equity sponsors, industry sources, and other investment professionals
- Take a lead role in the investment evaluation process including attendance at management presentations, review of due diligence reports, and preparation of internal investment proposals
- Actively monitor existing portfolio names
- Be able and willing to develop relationships across BlackRock with a positive attitude towards cross functional collaboration and partnership.
- Coach and mentor junior members of the team
Requirements / Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree with strong academic background
- 5+ years of relevant experience in investment banking, direct lending, or private debt investing with at least 3 years of experience underwriting, structuring and executing direct lending or private credit transactions
- Strong leadership skills and hands-on attitude
- Strong credit acumen with the ability to think critically about all aspects of a transaction
- Superior analytical, thinking, presentation and communication (oral and written) skills
- Ability to direct the structuring of a transaction, manage transaction process with internal and external parties and working with originators to complete investment opportunities
- Motivated, self-starter that seeks problem solving situations
- Must be able to work in team-oriented environment and show ability to quickly climb learning curve
- Ability to work effectively at all levels of an organization and build strong relationships with team members and investment professionals across the industry
- Detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and thrive with increased ownership and responsibilities
For California and New York City only the salary range for this position is $180,000 - $245,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
