Job Description

Columbia University, School of Professional Studies (SPS) seeks candidates to serve as a Course Associate to support the successful delivery of an online and asynchronous instruction graduate-level course, Managing Human Behavior.

In this course, students will gain an overview of major concepts of management and organization theory, concentrating on understanding human behavior in organizational contexts, with heavy emphasis on the application of concepts to solve managerial problems.

By the end of this course students will have developed the skills to motivate employees, establish professional interpersonal relationships, take a leadership role, and conduct performance appraisals.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate preparation of course materials, including oversight of the course  learning management system (Canvas), problem-based learning assignments, discussion prompts, group projects, exams and quizzes, development of class readings and video recordings, etc.

  • Assist with instruction through office hours and the learning management system (Canvas).

  • Facilitate asynchronous discussions, provide timely feedback on student work, record ad hoc video lectures, etc.

  • Allocate up to an hour (as needed) at the Lecturer's discretion for office hours.

  • Engage in administrative activities as needed

Class Days and Times

  • For the spring ‘25 semester, class will meet online on Wednesdays from 12:10pm to 2:00pm EST.

Qualifications

Columbia University SPS operates under a scholar-practitioner faculty model, which enables students to learn from faculty that have outstanding academic training as well as a record of accomplishment as practitioners in an applied industry setting.

Requirements

  • Masters-level or higher degree 

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of organizational experience 

  • Experience working on teams 

Preferred Qualifications

  • University teaching experience

Additional Information

Salary - $3,343.74 per semester-length course development and teaching (as of academic year 2024-2025)
