The Aladdin Business Development group is responsible for driving new client relationships, developing new business models, and innovating solutions with BlackRock’s intellectual and technological global expertise. Business Development professionals are required to understand the requirements of prospective client organization’s business and strategy, lead consultative processes that demonstrate and highlight the value of Aladdin and BlackRock’s expertise, and develop customized and impactful solution for each specific client.
Successful candidates must have a solid understanding of Asset Management business and industry, ability to think creatively to match up prospect requirements with BlackRock’s technology, and strong curiosity to learn about Aladdin’s capability and broad technology and financial developments in the world. Furthermore, the candidate is required to play a central hub role to orchestrate various BlackRock’s expertise to offer the best and creative solution for unique issue of each client. Project Management skill is also a strong plus.
As part of the business development process, the team is involved with extensive amount of client interactions especially with departments of Risk Management, Investment, Trading, Operations, IT/Systems, and senior management. Members of the team are also expected to connect with global Aladdin experts well to understand newly developed services, discuss commercial terms for business opportunities, and develop creative solution for specific client issues. In addition, as the client-facing role, the team members collaborate with BlackRock’s Marketing Group on messaging and brand development, as well as Client Business Group to provide genuinely firm-wide best expertise to clients.
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Aladdin Business is seeking a Vice President with strong Business Development experience to join the team and play a key role in driving the Aladdin business, a high-growth and strategic business area of BlackRock. The role will initially involve working closely with senior team members while developing the skills and knowledge required to independently lead business development opportunities. Prospective clients are from wide variety of institutional investor segments such as Insurance firms, Pension Funds, Banks/Brokers, Asset Management companies, and Alternative assets investors in Japan.
The Aladdin business has been dramatically expanded its scope of product variety recently. Business Development team is responsible for managing sales process of Aladdin as well as eFront, BlackRock’s proprietary technology platform to manage investment process of Alternative / Private market assets such as Private Equity, Infrastructure, Real Assets, Private Debt etc. The successful candidate will have opportunity to learn about end-to-end lifecycle of private asset investments and analytics.
The Business Development team member is required to orchestrate the team of experts from Aladdin, which include Relationship Managers, Implementation specialists, Analytics specialists, and Aladdin Client Service team members. In addition, there is extensive collaboration with Business Development colleagues in other regions (US, EMEA, Asia ex-Japan), global Aladdin experts, and BlackRock’s senior management team members.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Key responsibilities of the role include:
Understand a prospect’s business status, strategy, organization structure and business needs in order to identify the prospective clients for Aladdin and develop narrative to deliver Aladdin’s value proposition
Establish relationships with prospect organizations and manage consultative sales processes
Deliver sales presentations, understand prospective client requirements and carefully qualify opportunities
Interact with a variety of professionals including Portfolio Managers, Traders, Risk Managers, Operation experts, IT specialists and Senior Executives
Organize resources across the firm to deliver effective responses and facilitate detailed working sessions with prospects
Continually monitor and report on market intelligence and competitive landscape to evolve Aladdin’s narrative and development strategy
Contribute input into Aladdin product development to meet the needs of the marketplace
QUALIFICATIONS
More than 5 years of relevant experience in the financial industry
Ability to understand complex client needs and deliver solutions (e.g. Management Consultants, Advisory/Sales in Investment Banking, Equity Analysts, Sales/Strategist in Asset Management etc.)
Woking experience of selling investment or risk management technology to financial institutions
Work closely with a senior sales team to support the end-to-end sales of financial products or technology to key prospects
Superior communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts simply and clearly to clients
Familiarity with capital markets instruments (equities, fixed income, derivatives) including private markets such as private equity, infrastructure, real assets etc.
Organized, diligent and high energy individual, committed to excellence
Experience of using Aladdin/eFront as a user as a big plus
Demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team and excel in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment
Business level fluency in Japanese and English
