Direct management of Travel program ensuring that defined strategies are implemented, and activities are carried out in accordance with specified objectives. Provide strategic planning, Travel & Expense program design including defining policies, standard operating procedures and guidance and implementation to assigned program area. Direct and oversee the work assignment and performance of staff and volunteers. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all employees and volunteers. This position oversees the entire travel program and third-party travel providers and services including travel reservations, document processing, supplier management, negotiations and issue resolution as well as management reporting. A crucial support for disaster response, including after-hours service.
Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and develop strategies, policies and procedures for developing and managing the travel and expense programs, direct and coordinate program activities, and exercise control over staff responsible for specific functions or phases of program.
- Direct, manage and coordinate activities concerned with supporting standard and disaster response travel program, including but not limited to airfare, hotel and vehicle rental. Ensure consistent delivery of programs, quality and growth of programs and the integration with other programs within the organization. (GSA City Pair Program (CPP), In Kind, Computer Reservation System (GDS))
- Build financially sound, executable, data-driven business strategies in support of a program area and/or services. Develop strategy for area of responsibility to include process improvement, technology, cost reductions and risk mitigation.
- Review and analyze reports and records to maintain supplier managed programs, aligning business requirements with supplier performance and develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPI’s) of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specified program objectives and modify methodology as required to obtain objectives.
- Develop and implement short and long-term strategies to integrate priorities into the overall organization business plan and manage the execution of those strategies.
- Hire, manage, and evaluate direct and indirect staff. Direct staff, to include analytical capabilities and volunteers, in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures and programs.
- May work in conjunction with internal departments and external government and/or non-government agencies in the development of grant procurement and/or fundraising strategies.
- Strengthen management, development and oversight of external supplier and partner relationships.
- Provide travel service support (air, rail, car, hotel etc.), hotel event contract support and general travel and expense expertise to meet the needs of the lines of Business, including but not limited to Biomedical Services, Disaster Services, Training Services, Service to the Armed Forces and International Services. These services may require after hours and emergency support.
Scope: Establish operating policies and procedures that affect departments and subordinate sections and work units. Develop and help interpret company-wide policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree desired
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- Management Experience: 5 years of management experience.
- Travel Certification (i.e., GTP, CCTE, GLP), Hotel Management, or related field or equivalent work/industry experience preferred.
- Working knowledge or desire to learn TMC/GDS/OBT solutions and Concur T&E reporting.
- Skills & Abilities: Ability to work on a team.
Travel: Travel required 10 – 20%
Be willing to be on call and provide after-hours service
Ability to handle continuous last-minute deadlines and simultaneous tasks in a busy, fluid environment that require immediate attention and resolution.
Excellent communication and influence skills, to manage and educate staff and suppliers on travel related issues.

PAY INFORMATION: The annual salary range for this position is $130,000 - $150,000. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.**
