Responsibilities:

Summary

The Ortho/Spine category team leader drives system-wide spend management for the Ortho/Spine product category and sets and implements a clear strategy to optimize total cost of ownership, including product sourcing, product standardization, and utilization. Leads the category team of manager level staff with expertise and access to extensive knowledge of ortho/spine products and market. This role oversees annual dollar spend of approximately $700M and interfaces with a variety of high level Clinical Leadership and CommonSpirit Health leadership.

 

Key Responsibilities
1. Acts as a change leader - sets inspiring vision, role models change
2. Represents category and supply chain in interactions with operations, finance and clinicians
3. Collaborates with Contracting, Data Analytics, Purchasing, Technology, Operations and Implementation teams to ensure key stakeholders aligned with category strategy and support during conversions
4. Provides supervision, management and business direction to category team
5. Maintains in-depth knowledge of category product portfolio. Remains current on products in the market
6. Maintains sourcing calendar for category to ensure proper lead time and resource planning. Ensure associated contract categories are routinely evaluated, understand root causes of spend variations and continuously identify opportunities to improve multiple sources of value (price, standardization, utilization, operations)
7. Ensures rigorous approach to managing new products within category (e.g., works with clinical and financial stakeholders to prioritize new products to bring to appropriate committee, supports Value Analysis in delivery of new product process)
8. Identifies opportunities to standardize products across organization and makes fact-based recommendations in determining whether product should be standardized and/or used at CommonSpirit Health facilities
9. Evaluates primary and secondary sources of supply to understand competitive landscape and identify opportunities for better pricing
10. Documents quality issues and convenes peer review committee to review safety concerns and determine if product use should be discontinued

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business/Healthcare Administration is required; Master's Degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of contracting, supply chain, or clinical experience with evidence of progressive, increasing responsibility, with a minimum of 5 years of leadership level experience and demonstrated success mentoring and developing key subordinates.
  • Experience maintaining ortho/spine category of healthcare products or services, analyzing industry trends and conditions, and implementing sourcing strategies
  • Strong business acumen and analytical mindset
  • Proven ability to engage in details and drive the big picture
  • Demonstrated project leadership capabilities including excellent written and oral communication, ability to manage to timeline, and organization skills
  • Strong ability to form effective working relationship with a variety of stakeholders (administrative, clinical, finance, vendors)
  • Demonstrated comfort with ambiguity
  • Experience with and literate in supply chain computer applications, Microsoft Office or Google applications and user knowledge of each to achieve Supply Chain goals
