Who we are looking for:

We are in search of a talented Manual Quality Assurance Engineer to join our team as we continue to expand our scope and features. The role involves executing pre-release regression testing and exploratory testing for a sophisticated Excel add-in that works with different platforms such as macOS, Windows, and web browsers.

If you aren't just looking for a role to clicks through test suites, but are genuinely interested in:

  • the product domain,
  • the business pains our features solve,
  • the holistic perception of product quality by the customer,
you may be a great fit for this role, especially if you are a self-starter and have a small company mindset.
This role is primarily focused on manual testing; however, it is also open to candidates who see themselves eventually learning automation testing skills in the TypeScript stack.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifying the most important single-module and cross-cutting testing scenarios.
  • Documenting the scenarios as test cases.
  • Regular and pre-release manual regression testing by the test cases.
  • Exploratory manual testing without a predefined scenario.
  • Interaction with the development team to identify the most fruitful areas for testing at any given time.
  • Submitting the discovered issues to a bug tracker with detailed and deterministic (where possible) steps to reproduce.
  • Re-testing and verification that the closed issues were indeed fixed.
Requirements:
  • A university degree in a STEM field (computer science, IT, other technology, mathematics or engineering) is a requirement. If you had excellent grades or graduated with honours, even better!
  • Proven ability to deliver excellent productivity without sacrificing the quality of testing.
  • Analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • A self-starter mindset, being able to proactively communicate without over-communicating, as well as to identify and ask for priorities. Setting your own tasks where needed.
  • Good written English skills.
  • Accuracy in communication, producing documentation and following procedures.
  • Experience in exploratory and/or manual regression testing of desktop or web-based software.
  • Supportive & synergetic team-player personality, a positive outlook and excellent communication skills.
  • Technical writing skills for producing clean and concise test cases, which are simultaneously reasonably detailed and unambiguous.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with business / ERP software.
  • Ability to read and understand JSON, XML, and code in any programming language
  • Working knowledge of databases and SQL / NoSQL, including database testing.
  • Web API testing skills using REST clients such as Postman.
Terms:
  • Full-time for Canadian citizens; for overseas candidates, an hourly arrangement with at least 35 hours / week availability.
  • 100% remote environment with flexible working hours. Your schedule should still be reasonably predictable and responsiveness in communications is a must. You should be able to provide at least 3 hours overlap with the EST (Montreal) time zone.
  • A stable internet connection and videoconferencing capability is required (with camera on).
