Position Summary
The Financial Operations Analyst is responsible for analyzing financial data, ensuring accurate reporting, supporting compliance and legal functions as well a liaison with the Board of Directors. This role involves working closely with finance, and all other organizational teams to enhance financial performance, support budget planning, and provide insights that guide strategic decision-making, and ensuring corporate and regulatory compliance. The analyst will also play a key role in identifying process improvements and driving automation in financial planning and analysis operations.
Essential Job Functions
Financial Data Analysis:
- Collect, analyze, and interpret financial data to identify trends, variances, and performance metrics.
- Conduct ad-hoc financial analyses to support management decisions.
- Generate insights from financial data to improve operational efficiency and financial performance.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain accurate financial reports, dashboards, and presentations for stakeholders.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results.
- Assist in developing and refining financial reporting processes to improve accuracy and timeliness.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial projections.
- Monitor budget-to-actual performance and analyze variances to provide insights and recommendations.
- Collaborate with department heads to understand financial needs and support budget planning.
- Process Improvement and Automation:
- Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement in FP&A operations.
- Work with IT and finance teams to drive automation efforts in data collection, reporting, and reconciliation.
- Enhance operational workflows to streamline financial reporting and analysis functions.
Cost Analysis and Control:
- Monitor operational expenses, identify cost drivers, and suggest cost-saving opportunities.
- Provide insights and recommendations on cost management to improve profitability.
- Analyze vendor contracts, purchase orders, and operational expenses to ensure efficient spending.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with relevant external regulations and internal policies across the agency.
- Support internal audits and work with external auditors as needed.
- Assist in maintaining a strong control environment to minimize financial risks.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate with finance and other departments to ensure alignment on financial goals.
- Serve as a point of contact for departments needing financial insights or support on forecast and reporting.
- Provide financial training and guidance to team members to promote financial literacy.
Liaison to the Board of Directors:
- Maintain Board Calendar
- Support the preparations for meeting, including but not limited to gathering, organizing and disseminating materials.
- Other Board support work as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- 2+ years of experience in financial analysis, operations, accounting, or related quantitative based field.
- Strong background in data analysis and reporting.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, SQL), and accounting software.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI).
- Expert level user in Microsoft Office, specifically excel
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or quantitative based related field preferred.
Work Environment
This position is hybrid-remote, including at least 1-3 times in-office work per week. This position is primarily sedentary, working at a desk in a temperature-controlled office, in modular office space or an individual office. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
