Organization Overview:

The Role:

This newly created role in Procurement will be responsible for thriving in a fast-paced environment leading day-to-day contract development and completion, PO creation and management, as well as optimizing the overall process performance. This leader will coordinate amongst business owners, Legal, IT, and others to both develop strong vendor contracts, as well as own the procurement contracting process in terms of performance, delivery, contract lifecycle management, and technology. Additionally, this leader will be the internal subject-matter-expert for our Procure to Pay process (Coupa) in terms of requisitions, purchase orders, and payment for our vendor base. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background in procurement contracting and operations Center-of-Excellence models and/or Business Process Outsourcing with demonstrated performance in high-volume and impactful contract development, execution, lifecycle management, and organizational insights. Prior experience in biotech / pharma in the above model(s) would be a significant leverage point.  

Education and Experience:

  • Provide day-to-day orchestration of multiple ongoing supplier related projects and act as the single point of contact with both the internal business owner(s) as well as key supplier personnel
  • Negotiate and draft contractual positions based on prior precedence, accepted standards, and keen knowledge base of business problems and potential solutions
  • Lead (personally) and through direct reports (as necessary) new contract requests as assigned and work within the procure-to-pay (P2P Coupa) system
  • Continuously improve the overall contracting process, from intake, execution, cycle times, process performance, and lifecycle management.
  • Establish clear deliverables on contracting and P2P processes and communicate performance to key stakeholders
  • Engage with Business Owners, stakeholders, suppliers, and legal team to facilitate review of CDAs, MSAs, Consulting Agreements, SOWs, Amendments/Change Orders, and other documents as required.
  • Develop standards and performance measures that continue to drive improvements in the processes as well as train the larger team and organization on best practices
  • Be the central point of contact for day-to-day contracts, leveraging organizational know-how and skillsets to influence outcomes and negotiations in accordance with business timelines and requirements.
  • Lead or support monthly contract reporting requirements
  • Develop standards of documentation requirements, including ongoing correspondence, repository requirements, lifecycle management
  • Act as the SME for Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) system, taking on leadership of filing and reporting structures. Work closely with Legal on ongoing contract support for any due diligence work.
  • Monitor contracting statuses and advise the organization and business owners on status and recommended pathways forward (close-out, extend, amend, etc.).
  • Support new contract requests and intake as assigned and work in the procure-to-pay (P2P) system.
  • Establish clear deliverables through the contracting and P2P process for internal business customers, and externally with suppliers to effectively support contract maintenance
  • Partner with IT to define current and future state technology needs to support effective contracting (i.e. intake, processing, completion, documentation, maintenance, close out)
  • Participate in process development and tools related to procurement functional development.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with an emphasis on biotech/pharma, life sciences, contracting, purchasing, and supplier negotiations
  • 5+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry preferred, with a minimum of five (3) years of direct end-to-end COE / BPO supplier contracting and procurement operations experience.
  • Substantial contract drafting, redlining, and negotiation experience, preferably in the biotech / pharma domain.
  • Must have experience in the procure-to-pay (P2P) process and working in a P2P system. Coupa experience is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to be business facing across all levels.
  • Must be highly team oriented and comfortable working with cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent analytical skills and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of GxP preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive oversight, performance and relationship management with external suppliers and services providers.
  • Flexibility to adapt to the dynamic needs of a rapidly growing biotech company.
  • Strong understanding of the drug development lifecycle.

Compensation is based on a number of factors, including market location, and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, dental, vision, 401k, and other benefits, including unlimited paid time off and parental leave. The annual base salary for this position ranges from $175,000.00 - $185,000.00.
