Under the direction of the Director of Compliance, you’ll be responsible as the “go to” Compliance Expert when it comes to Medicare Supplemental Insurance (“MedSupp”) rate filings. In addition, you’ll monitor and research federal and state laws and regulations for compliance trends and changes that affect business and operations. You’ll also provide administrative support to the Director, Assistant Director and Research Analyst(s) in the submission of state-mandated filings and reports, along with various administrative duties.
Essential Duties:
Your primary responsibility with be in handling the Medicare Supplement Rate Adjustment Filing process on a regular basis. (This will comprise 90% of your work daily.) This task will require someone who has superb organizational skills, takes pride in their attention to detail, and is a quick learner. Assist in the filing of corporate reports, including Annual Market Conduct Reports, Data Match Reports, Holding Company Forms, as well as all other state-mandated reports. Assist as needed in the maintenance of all corporate records to include such reports, licenses, licensure files, and all other related records and documents. Fill all policy forms, applications advertising and related documents with the relevant state departments of insurance; maintain records of said filings, monitor all state responses and the timeliness of the company’s re-submittal, and notify all interested parties once submittals have been approved. Proactively and on a regular basis, assist as needed in the research and compilation of state guidelines. You’ll learn how to conduct regulatory research, including corporate organizational issues and corporate filings, and will coordinate with the Compliance team to monitor, review, summarize and distribute reports and other information on law or regulatory changes to all affected departments as warranted.
Other Duties:
Assume duties as needed upon assignment by the Director and/or Assistant Director of Compliance.
Education/Training Requirements:
Bachelors degree and/or Legal Assistant/Paralegal designation or the equivalent experience. Insurance, Regulatory and/or Compliance experience would be great, but a willingness to learn, fabulous organizational skills and a good sense of humor, combined with intellectual curiosity, would more than make up for the lack of experience.
Skills/Required Knowledge/Tools:
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must demonstrate the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and manage time efficiently. Must possess intellectual curiosity and the ability to learn new disciplines rapidly. Basic understanding of life insurance is required. Should have excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). Westlaw and other internet legal search experiences a plus.
