Job description

Job Summary

Reporting to the Product Steward Manager, ensures Synthomer complies with Global Product Regulatory Chemical regulations by completing project work and/or supporting the CCS Product Stewardship team. Ensures that systems and processes support the company’s continued compliance identifying any potential inefficiencies and reporting them to the management team. Identify key changes to regulations, based on specified compliance responsibilities, are communicated to departmental colleagues and that an understanding of business impact is discussed. Facilitate the delivery of departmental projects by completing set packages of work.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Pro-actively identify, report on and improve safety related issues using available tools and systems
  • Able to manage and maintain multiple levels of expertise and insight within the specified regulatory field / topic
  • Apply a high level of scientific rigor to the analysis and assessment of data to draw and present conclusions in support of business decision making
  • Responsible for delivery of subject matter projects in support of legislative changes, issues or market concerns
  • Supporting experienced scientific staff in understanding subject matter
  • Clearly communicate findings/ requirements in respect of sustainability topics / regulatory queries
  • Partner with business units to proactively engage with subject matter as required
  • Building a network within the wider organization (e.g., technical, business units, production, etc.)
  • Grow expertise in general regulatory compliance for specialty chemistries
  • Representing Synthomer in local or national trade associations; recommending changes to and impact of legislation
  • Builds a network with the broader business; technical and commercial teams to become a recognized member of the regulatory team.
  • Ensure products remain compliant using the current systems and processes.
  • Ensure that information in all relevant databases is kept up to date. Create and edit records where necessary.
  • Classify products in line with local / regional GHS guidelines / regulations. Update the relevant systems with classification and ensure communication to the supply chain via legally compliant safety data sheets and labels.
  • Represent assigned business unit as a Product Steward, developing an understanding of the product area, Innovation and customer needs, delivering upon business-driven projects. Act as the deputy Product Steward for Coatings and Construction.
  • Ensure all allocated requests/customer inquiries are handled appropriately to deliver the service level agreed upon with the business/division, where not possible to be met provides solutions for improvements in response time to manager.
  • Work with other Product Stewards to nurture and develop an deeper understanding of US legislation including TSCA and FIFRA requirements.
  • Working knowledge of food contact (FDA, BFR, Mercosur, etc.) and drinking water compliance requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in polymer, coatings or other similar environment working in an industrial Regulatory/Compliance role. Prefer 7 plus years’ experience.
  • Able to identify inefficiencies and offer ideas and solutions to mitigate them.
  • Strong project management skills with excellent communication.
  • Practical yet analytical thinking towards the impact of legislation of the organization.
  • Deep knowledge of relevant government regulations, product safety and product risk assessments.
  • Ability to use regulations together with data to make recommendations, drive business decision, and provide practical, actionable and value-added recommendations.
  • Self-motivated, well-organized and able to multi-task, adapt to change, prioritize tasks, and commit to follow-through and deadlines.
  • Highly analytical, solutions and detail oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Excellent skills in Business Acumen; able to stay on top of changing regulatory rules and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and interacting with diverse groups at all technical levels
  • Strong ethics and integrity with the ability to stand firm on issues with independence and a passion for protecting people, property and the environment.
