Job Overview

As a Senior Principal Engineer specializing in Airworthiness within our esteemed Office of Independent Airworthiness (OIAW), you will be instrumental in achieving airworthiness certification for various air vehicle platforms. This role allows for remote work flexibility, although candidates based in or near San Diego, CA, are preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Spearhead technical airworthiness planning and verification, including the formulation and negotiation of airworthiness plans, certification bases, compliance strategies, and various certification activities for intricate systems.
  • Partner with other airworthiness engineers and internal engineering teams to oversee the entire lifecycle of design, fabrication, testing, installation, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning.
  • Execute functional and process analyses, as well as requirements allocation, to convert customer specifications into actionable criteria and derived requirements.
  • Maintain comprehensive airworthiness documentation to support Military Flight Releases and ongoing airworthiness as part of the technical airworthiness team.
  • Excel in a dynamic environment while managing diverse assignments and fostering collaborative relationships across all organizational levels.

Required Skills

  • Solid understanding of MIL-HDBK-516B and -516C.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating airworthiness plans and certification bases.
  • Familiarity with domestic and international UAS/RPAS airworthiness authorizations and type certifications.
  • Ability to secure and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint).

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience, a Master's degree with at least 7 years, or a PhD with 4 years of experience.
  • Previous experience in military aircraft development or modification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of USAF Airworthiness Policy Directives, Instructions, and Bulletins is advantageous.

Compensation And Benefits

  • Salary Range: \(121,000 - \)199,600
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Employees may be eligible for discretionary bonuses, long-term incentives in leadership roles, and an array of benefits including health insurance, life insurance, retirement savings plans, and paid time off.
