Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal DevOps Engineer to join our esteemed Database Engineering team. This pivotal role focuses on database management and automation, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our distributed databases and business intelligence technology.

Key Responsibilities

As a Principal DevOps Engineer specializing in database automation, your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to automate the provisioning and configuration of database environments.
  • Creating and maintaining Python scripts, Ansible playbooks, Chef cookbooks, and AWS SSM Documents to optimize database management processes.
  • Continuously enhancing and maintaining database automation frameworks and processes.
  • Managing CI/CD pipelines with tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI/CD runners for effective continuous integration and deployment.
  • Collaborating with DevOps and Infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration of database automation into wider CI/CD workflows.
  • Proactively monitoring and troubleshooting database automation processes to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
  • Establishing and documenting standards for cloud-based data platforms.
  • Contributing to cloud strategy discussions by providing insights on the design and implementation of cloud data solutions.
  • Keeping abreast of trends in database automation and DevOps to continuously refine processes.
  • Adhering to best practices for incident resolution, problem-solving, and change management.
  • Independently leading projects from planning through to implementation with minimal supervision.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, particularly Terraform.
  • Expertise in automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, and AWS SSM Documents.
  • Strong Python scripting capabilities.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline tools like Jenkins and GitLab.
  • Knowledge of Groovy is advantageous.
  • In-depth understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Solid grasp of AWS Cloud architecture.
  • Familiarity with AWS Aurora Postgres and Oracle Databases.
  • Experience in database provisioning within AWS Cloud environments.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, accompanied by 8-10 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated capacity to operate independently and effectively in complex environments, while meeting both business and customer needs.
