Lead Data Scientist/Data Engineer - Remote | WFH

Job Overview

Our mission centers on empowering U.S. ranchers to adopt regenerative land management practices nationwide, contributing to the vital fight against climate change through the effective capture of atmospheric carbon dioxide. With partnerships established with over 125 producers across 1.2 million acres in 20 states, we are at the forefront of promoting healthy soils and biodiversity. Our innovative carbon credit program offers ranchers unique revenue opportunities, and we are seeking a Lead Data Scientist/Data Engineer to advance our data-driven initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Formulate and implement a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with our organizational mission.
  • Design, develop, and oversee scalable data architectures, including pipelines and databases, to support extensive soil carbon quantification and robust MRV processes.
  • Supervise the collection, integration, and validation of data from various sources, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Spearhead the creation of data-driven Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) solutions to monitor and validate land management practices enhancing soil carbon sequestration.
  • Lead the development and application of advanced analytics, machine learning models, and predictive algorithms to refine carbon measurement capabilities.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including environmental scientists and software engineers, to seamlessly integrate data solutions into our carbon management platform.
  • Create and maintain insightful dashboards, reports, and visualizations for both internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science and environmental sustainability, identifying opportunities for innovation and enhancement.

Required Skills

  • 8+ years of experience in data science, data engineering, or a relevant field, demonstrating a track record of leadership and results.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing, ETL processes, and database management (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
  • Expertise in cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and big data technologies.
  • Strong foundation in statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
  • Experience with GIS, remote sensing, and environmental data is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to convey complex data concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related discipline; a Ph.D. is an advantage.
  • Previous experience developing MRV systems for carbon projects is a significant asset.
  • Previous startup experience is preferred but not mandatory; a readiness to excel in a fast-paced, high-growth setting is essential.
