Position Overview:

The Global Manufacturing Engineering Group showcases talented professionals, world-class technologies and innovative solutions that “Power” the quality and performance of Insulet Corporation’s unique drug delivery devices.

The Sr. Staff Controls Engineer will lead in Hardware/Software Controls development utilized on high-speed automated assembly, test and packaging equipment. This role will lead cross-functionally, and in collaboration with vendors, prioritized projects aligned with business goals. The team is responsible to provide automated manufacturing robot controls and product test processes that are capable, scalable globally, cost effective, reliable, documented and validated. The candidate will be responsible for leading the installation and start-up of new equipment, improvements to existing equipment and other continuous improvement initiatives.  This position requires strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the design, development, implementation and analysis of automated high-speed manufacturing and test control systems including servo drivers, HMI, PLC’s and data collection in support of product specifications.
  • Creates schematics, wiring diagrams and design of machine controls, overseeing fabrication and assembly of prototypes with outside vendors related to new equipment, retrofits and upgrades.
  • Design, develop and implement vision inspection systems as pass/fail criteria leveraging Cognex, Keyence and other integrated vision systems as appropriate.
  • Apply principles of electronics and electrical design, including digital, analog, RF, and mixed signal systems.
  • Integrates data collection for quality, productivity and official lot records. Supports IT security practices, network analysis and design for the manufacturing environment.
  • Provides extensive support of continuous improvement, troubleshooting and problem resolution focusing on data-driven decision.
  • Independently performs experiments, including development of test methods, measurement, analysis, process controls and visual inspection.
  • Support process verification, validation and documentation.
  • Leverages data and observation to drive problem resolution cross-functionally.
  • Research and analyze data for specifications, feasibility studies, and productivity improvements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of hands-on automation engineering programming with assembly and manufacturing experience including clean sheet design, design and implementation of continuous improvement for discrete component assembly equipment.

Preferred Skills and Competencies:       

  • Extensive experience in the engineering, design and development of manufacturing equipment for high volume, high speed, high precision assembly operation and complex industrial systems
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation products required.
  • Experience in imaging systems and software a strong plus.
  • Strong Programming knowledge of Rockwell Automation RSLogix5000 and FTView ME and SE required.
  • Strong Knowledge of programming of VFD and Servo drives and motion control.  (AB Powerflex and Kinetix preferred).
  • Experience with B&R controls software and hardware a strong plus.
  • Extensive experience in controls of automation, high-speed component feeding, material handling.
  • Experience in a medical device or other regulated environment with validated processes is a plus.
  • Strong project management, organizational and documentation skills desired.
  • SQL Server Database knowledge and Visual Basic Programming a plus
  • Ability to uphold Safety standards, to participate in Continuous Process Improvement on the job, and to follow our business best practices.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and dynamic team environment

Physical Requirements:              

  • The successful candidate will be expected to travel domestically and internationally.  Anticipated travel is estimated at 10%.

On-Site): This position requires on-site working arrangements (requires on-site office/plant/lab work).

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $111,800.00 - $168,050.00. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
