The American Immigration Council works to strengthen America by shaping how America thinks about and acts towards immigrants and immigration and by working toward a more fair and just immigration system that opens its doors to those in need of protection and unleashes the energy and skills that immigrants bring. The Council brings together individuals adept at solving problems and employs four coordinated approaches to advance change—litigation, research, legislative and administrative advocacy, and communications.
Content Strategy & Brand department supports the development of The Council’s brand across all platforms for a general consumer audience. We work with department heads across each vertical to align our mission, develop consumer facing messaging and create content that illuminates the unique position of The Council in the immigration movement. Through strategic corporate and arts partnerships, we grow the footprint of the brand and build a strong community of supporters who are highly engaged.
The Writer and Content Specialist will write, edit, and produce compelling and educational written, visual, and multimedia content (blogs, articles, social media posts, infographics, videos, etc.) for a consumer audience.
As with all positions at the Council, this position requires commitment to the Council’s mission and the organization’s culture of philanthropy.
Essential Job Functions
- Write and design explainer social media content that engages followers, spark conversations, and drive awareness on immigration issues.
- Write compelling web content on immigration and other political topics. Supply web copy, as needed, for content promotion and campaigns.
- Collaborate with the program teams to produce content that reflects ongoing projects and initiatives.
- Write compelling email copy highlighting recent developments and key takeaways from our reports and webinars.
- Ensure content aligns with the nonprofit’s goals and messages.
- Prepare reports on the impact of content marketing efforts and present insights to the leadership team.
- Maintain the nonprofit’s brand voice and ensure all content aligns with its mission, values, and tone.
- Ensure consistency across all communication channels, including print, digital, and social media.
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing or a related field
- Four plus (4+) years of experience in content marketing
- Four plus (4+) years' experience with copy editing and journalism preferred
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines on tight timelines
- Demonstrate strong collaboration skills
- Excellent editing skills
- Proficient in Canva
- Strong background and/or passion for immigration advocacy is preferred
- Ability to present findings to key stakeholders
- Strategic thinker with a keen vision for content analysis and exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment

Our Workplace
We are a fully remote workplace. We offer an extremely generous total compensation package (salary and benefits). This is a remote position. While remote, this job operates in a professional office environment and will require the use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and technology such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams. The Council will provide a laptop and other equipment needed to perform the job. Staff must supply their own office space and furniture.
The annual base salary range for this position is between $70,000 - $80,000.
