Overview of the role
Successful candidate will be an experienced and motivated Tax Director to oversee our state and local tax function which includes tax compliance, tax provisions, and planning. This role is part of a recently established State and Local Tax group and will provide opportunities for the right candidate to participate in the establishment of best practices, identify tax savings opportunities and reduce tax risk for the growing function.
Summary of responsibilities
- Perform technical review of outside consultants’ work related to the following areas:
- Income Tax Compliance
- Premium Tax Provisions and Compliance
- Sales and Use Tax Compliance and Planning
- Personal Property Tax Compliance
- Review quarterly and annual income tax provisions, including preparation of the cumulative loss test for valuation allowance purposes and validation of current and deferred income tax account.
- Manage and provide information to Tax Authorities for audits.
- Work as part of the team on other special projects, including tax planning and process improvements.
- Supervision of one manager and a group of outside consultants.
Qualifications
- Highly driven and interested in taking on challenging work while seeking out answers and solutions independently.
- The work environment is very fast-paced, and duties and responsibilities are subject to change on a regular basis.
- Willing to pitch-in and take a hands-on approach in some situations to meet the deadlines of the team.
- A CPA or JD is required
- Eight plus years of State and Local Tax or a combination of federal and State and Local Tax experience in in public accounting or corporate tax department. Experience with financial services type companies or insurance companies is strongly preferred but not required.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills. Build interpersonal relationships within a large, complicated organization. The Tax Director will interface with Tax IT, business units and other areas to coordinate the needs of each.
- Work independently, achieve results, and possess strong quantitative skills.
- Proficient in the use of MS Office: Excel (strong), Word, and PowerPoint
