Position Responsibilities
Deltek is seeking an experienced architect or engineer to provide specification expertise to the team of specification writers creating content for the AIA MasterSpec® and Deltek SpecText master guide specification libraries, delivered through Deltek Specpoint.
As the Specification Technical Lead, you will help set the direction for non-proprietary specification content spanning most MasterFormat Divisions for building and infrastructure projects and be a primary driver of content policy.
Responsibilities:
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to set strategic priorities for development of specification content for the specification libraries managed by Deltek.
- Keep abreast of industry trends, technological advances, and growth areas to inform decisions about sections to be added, discontinued, or updated.
- Drive decisions about the structure of sections (e.g. broad/narrow scope or performance-based), considering input from review committees, customers, external partners, and internal stakeholders.
- Foster collaboration between architectural and engineering disciplines to improve consistency and coordination across disciplines and sections.
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and enforce specification writing policies, including but not limited to, those governing inclusion of manufacturers and products in the Specpoint database, partnerships, and suitable sources of research for specification updates. Act as final arbiter in cases of disagreement among staff.
- Conduct technical review of specification content to ensure it references proper standards and codes, is coordinated across libraries, and remains commercially neutral.
- Spearhead AIA peer review committee meetings, collaborating with AIA on planning meeting structure and agendas, recruiting members, and committee business. Attend section review meetings for all review committees to facilitate coordination between disciplines.
- Provide specification thought leadership through participation in external committees and meetings, as well as through written and oral presentations at industry events, Deltek blog posts, and Town Hall meetings, etc.
- Write sections as time allows.
- Contribute specwriting expertise to Specpoint product team and other Deltek departments to inform Specpoint Product Roadmap. Participate in Customer Advisory Council.
Qualifications
- Registered architect or licensed professional engineer duly licensed in a jurisdiction of the United States. Must be in good professional standing with no prior or pending professional disciplinary actions by a licensing or registration board. Must not be currently or within the last 10 years involved in malpractice litigation as a defendant concerning the quality of his/her work as an architect or professional engineer. If an architect, must be member in good standing of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
- Deep knowledge of Construction Specifiers Institute (CSI) specification writing conventions, including MasterFormat and Section Format. CDT certification preferred. CCS and/or CCCA certifications a plus.
- Knowledge of Uniformat conventions a plus.
- Must participate in industry groups related to specification writing, such as CSI, SCIP, or domain-specific associations.
- Knowledge of sustainability rating systems, with LEED AP or other sustainability certification a plus.
- 15+ years of experience in building construction for firms specializing in engineering, architecture, construction management, specification consulting, or project management. Experience must include writing project specifications and conducting product review.
- Comfortable with public speaking in front of large audiences in person and online.
- Must be collaborative, open to working in new ways, and able to provide constructive feedback.
- Must be able to juggle multiple projects at the same time and professionally deal with colleagues and customers across disciplines.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite of products. Experience with BIM, Revit, and other design and visualization tools desired. Willingness to learn new technologies.
Compensation Information
The U.S. salary range for this position is $98000.00 - $147000.00. This range is subject to change as Deltek takes a number of factors into consideration when determining individual base pay, such as location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including incentive compensation and equity.
