Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced OpenText Exstream Software Engineer within the PCMCC product suite. Our team collaborates with business areas to meet their customer communication needs. We design, develop, test using the OpenText Exstream composition tool suite. This position will also support the adoption of new communication development capabilities including the adoption of cloud technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collects and analyzes information to identify customer's technical needs, suggest solutions and develop implementation and integration plans (e.g., technical proposals)
  • Responsible for the analysis, design, deployment, support, and security of technology to ensure the organization is efficiently managing its technology and data-related assets in accordance with market best-practices and external regulations
  • Participates in sprint planning; provides work estimates to deliver product stories; owns development stories
  • Participates in the full software development cycle including coding, testing, implementation, support and sunset
  • Utilizes up-to-date coding, testing, security, DevOps, and software engineering practices to maintain and create new applications that support business requirements
  • Utilizes agile software engineering practices, coding and testing standards, code reviews, source code management, continuous delivery, and software architecture.

  • Works independently to design, develop, implement, test, and support products for business areas (creating new or modifying existing applications/tools to meet technical specifications or business needs)
  • Independently identifies problems, related technical issues and the approach to long-term, repeatable solutions meeting customer/grantor needs
  • Independently handles and resolves routine problems and moderately complex assignments, but may require assistance and guidance for more complex issues
  • Maintains and continues to develop breadth of knowledge in software engineering topics, including classes, functions, security, containers, version control, CI/CD, and unit tests
  • Maintains and continues to develop breadth of knowledge in programming (e.g. Java, JavaScript), and database functionality (e.g. SQL, Non-SQL)
  • Maintains and continues to develop breadth of knowledge in compute environments, including but not limited to Linux, Hadoop, Mainframe, Public Cloud, and containers
  • Develops understanding of user experience best practices and test designs and standards
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the State Farm organizational structure

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Prior software engineer coding/programming experience
  • Prior programming experience with composition software, such as OpenText Exstream (formerly known as HP Exstream) or Smart Communications, including Command Center
  • Knowledge of customer communication management (CCM) practices
  • Ability to understand impacts from/to upstream and downstream processes (i.e., as it relates to output formats such as print, email, and electronic storage)
  • Thorough understanding and experience with data structures (e.g. XSD and XML) and data merge practices
  • Experience with code repositories, shared forms, version management and deployment of package files to testing and production
  • Familiarity with data dictionaries, Exstream driver files and Gitlab schema
  • Knowledge of coding practices to comply with accessibility standards
  • Experience with agile development practices
  • Unit Testing concepts & frameworks
  • Prior object-oriented programming experience; experience with JavaScript or Python is a plus
  • Experience with other OpenText Exstream tools (e.g., Liquid Office, Communications Designer, Content Author, Empower) is a plus
