Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our IT modernization team of qualified, diverse individuals. This crucial role involves contributing to the modernization of our on-premise IT infrastructure while integrating with public cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will have a hands-on approach to building and operating complex IT platforms, with a particular emphasis on transitioning to a modern infrastructure using Kubernetes and other modular, software-define technologies. The qualified applicant will become part of Peraton's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Infrastructure Managed Services (IMS) Program, for the US Coast Guard (CG).

Location: 100% Remote

Day to Day Work Responsibilities:

  • Modernize IT infrastructure components such as networking, firewalls, storage arrays, and compute clusters using advanced technologies like Kubernetes.
  • Engage in special projects alongside engineering and operations teams, aimed at infrastructure modernization and stabilization.
  • Contribute to hybrid on-prem/private cloud and public cloud strategies.
  • Independently manage and collaborate on task-based initiatives within the modernization project.
  • Assist the operations team in stabilizing existing IT environments through strategic project collaboration.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience or Master's degree and 6 years experience or HS Diploma/equivalent and 12 years experience.
  • U.S. Citizenship required; Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Hands-on systems engineering experience, with a strong focus on on-premise infrastructure in large-scale, mission-critical enterprise environments.
  • Experience in public cloud technologies, demonstrating a solid understanding and practical skills in this area.
  • Proficiency in containerization and orchestration.
  • Proficient in Python and PowerShell, capable of effectively contributing to scripting tasks.
  • Ability to quickly grasp business needs and incorporate this understanding into practical project decisions.
  • Strong experience with all layers of an I.T. platform including networking, storage, compute, operating systems, services, and applications.
  • Rapid adaptability to new technologies and systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in large-scale commercial IT infrastructure management and modernization.

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
