You Are
UST is seeking a Senior Cognos Developer to join our team in building and optimizing business intelligence solutions for one of the leading healthcare providers in the US. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Cognos development, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The Opportunity
- Development and Optimization: Report Development: Design, develop, and maintain complex Cognos reports and dashboards to meet business requirements.
- Data Modeling: Create and optimize data models to support reporting and analytics needs.
- Performance Tuning: Optimize Cognos reports and queries for performance and efficiency.
- ETL Integration: Collaborate with ETL developers to ensure seamless integration of data into Cognos reports.
- Technical Expertise and Impact Assessment: Technical Guidance: Provide technical guidance and support to junior developers and other team members.
- Impact Analysis: Assess the impact of new requirements and changes on existing Cognos reports and data models.
- Best Practices: Implement best practices in Cognos development to ensure high-quality deliverables.
- Upgrade Management: Perform and validate Cognos upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption and optimal performance.
- Stakeholder and Risk Management: Stakeholder Communication: Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including clients, team members, and senior management, to gather requirements and provide updates on project progress.
- Risk Identification: Identify potential risks in Cognos development projects and develop mitigation strategies.
- Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement: Testing and Validation: Conduct thorough testing and validation of Cognos reports to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of Cognos reports, data models, and development processes.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance Cognos development.
- Training and Support: User Training: Develop and deliver training programs to ensure that end-users are well-prepared to use Cognos reports and dashboards.
- Technical Support: Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for Cognos reports and dashboards.

What You Need
- Strong expertise in Cognos BI tools, including Report Studio, Query Studio, and Framework Manager.
- Proficiency in SQL and database management systems (e.g., DB2, Postgres).
- Experience with data modeling and ETL processes.
- Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and best practices.
- Familiarity with other business intelligence tools such as Tableau or Power BI is a plus.
- Experience in performing and validating Cognos upgrades.
- Soft Skills: Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Effective documentation and reporting skills.
- Proficient in English for communication purposes.
- Open and honest communication with peers and management regarding project timelines, issues, and concerns.
- Assertiveness in presenting ideas, project scope, and timelines.
- Strong ability to manage difficult stakeholders and navigate complex situations.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of experience in Cognos development and business intelligence.
- Experience in the healthcare industry, including knowledge of medical and prescription claims processing, healthcare enrollments, and provider operations.
- Experience in managing projects that handle PHI (Protected Health Information) and PII (Personally Identifiable Information) and sensitive data.
- Experience in building a culture of continuous improvement, identifying opportunities for technical delivery improvements, including process improvements, quality management improvements, knowledge sharing/management improvements, collaboration tool improvements, and program reporting tool improvements.
- Educational Qualifications: Preferred: master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- Required: bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.

Compensation can differ depending on factors including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, education, and level of experience. UST provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in various U.S. markets as set forth below.
Role Location: Remote
Compensation Range: $82,000-$125,000
Benefits
Full-time, regular employees accrue a minimum of 10 days of paid vacation per year, receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year), 10 paid holidays, and are eligible for paid bereavement leave and jury duty. They are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) Retirement Plan with employer matching. They and their dependents residing in the US are eligible for medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as the following Company-paid Employee Only benefits: basic life insurance, accidental death and disability insurance, and short- and long-term disability benefits. Regular employees may purchase additional voluntary short-term disability benefits, and participate in a Health Savings Account (HSA) as well as a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for healthcare, dependent child care, and/or commuting expenses as allowable under IRS guidelines. Benefits offerings vary in Puerto Rico.

Full-time temporary employees receive 6 days of paid sick leave each year (pro-rated for new hires throughout the year) and are eligible to participate in the Company’s 401(k) program with employer matching.
