We're in the business of feeding people, and we're out to change what that means. Here at sweetgreen’s Automation Team we’re working to scale our meal assembly automation - the Infinite Kitchen - into our restaurant fleet. Our goals are to improve the daily routines and workflows for our restaurant staff and enable great customer experiences. We are looking for a Manufacturing Quality Engineer to join our manufacturing department to implement, enhance and oversee our quality systems at our contract manufacturer’s facilities.

Location: Full-time In-Person: 75% based at Sweetgreen’s Contract Assembly Manufacturing location in Westborough, MA, 25% based at Sweetgreen’s Boston Automation office in Charlestown, MA. Up to 25% travel.

What you’ll do: 

  • Ensure that Quality Control processes are implemented in our manufacturing operations in accordance with Sweetgreen’s manufacturing plans, including Incoming Material Inspection, In-Process Quality checklists, and Factory Acceptance Testing.
  • Act as a liaison between our contract manufacturer in Westborough and our engineering and maintenance teams in Charlestown, MA
  • Work with Sweetgreen leadership to select and define a Quality Management System for Sweetgreen Manufacturing.
  • Ownership of day-to-day operation of the Quality Management System by ensuring nonconformances, SCARs, and other defects are documented and addressed at our contract assembly location. 
  • As required, perform on-site audits of manufacturers throughout Sweetgreen’s Infinite Kitchen supply chain.
  • Define and optimize inspection procedures for incoming material, including the design of required fixtures and inspection tools.
  • Provide design feedback to Sweetgreen Engineering to improve both design performance, and ease of manufacturing.
  • Maintain and update Sweetgreen’s technical documentation based on inputs from the Engineering team, implement changes through multiple stakeholders
  • Receive feedback from the field and from the maintenance teams and help create appropriate action items to address issues
  • Collaborate closely with our contract manufacturer to improve our quality systems, propose new workflows and solve challenges

Who you are

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of experience in an Engineering role with at least 1 year in a Quality or Reliability engineering role.
  • Prior experience working in manufacturing environments that include fabrication, assembly, and the integration of electromechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with standards of mechanical documentation including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry standard instruments and practices used to inspect mechanical components.
  • Extensive familiarity with commonly used fabrication processes including CNC Machining, Injection Molding, Sheet Metal fabrication, Wire/Cable, Welding, Casting, Printed Circuit Board fabrication and assembly. 
  • Meticulous attention to detail and and ability to create and maintain polished documentation.
