The Training and Technical Support will provide support to lead training and technical assistance (TTA) coordinators, virtually and onsite, to a portfolio of American Indian/Alaska Native communities to prevent substance use and misuse, prevent suicide including tribal youth suicide, and promotion of mental health. The customized technical assistance can include Tribal Action Planning, GONA/GOAN delivery, or other prevention curricula requested by a community. working with the community to plan and include local traditions and practices, provide a summary report, and community participant evaluation of the TTA delivered.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support training & technical assistance (TTA) coordinators in providing TTA to tribal communities requesting support around the prevention of substance use/misuse, prevention of suicide, and promotion of mental health.
  • Assist TTA Coordinators supporting tribal communities with development of strategic action plans, tribal action plans and prevention plans through onsite and virtual support.
  • Assist TTA coordinators in providing trauma informed and strength based TTA.
  • Participate in regular webinars, zoom, conference calls, telephone support and email with AI/AN communities to provide virtual TTA.
  • Learn what it takes to assist communities in strengthening existing services and/or continue to build off existing prevention infrastructure.
  • Understand the Community Readiness Model and how to provide assistance to communities that matches readiness levels and meets the needs.
  • Participate in various internal teams and across contract staff to ensure collaboration, communication, joint development of materials, and training.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Knowledge in substance abuse prevention, promotion of mental health, suicide prevention, and/or youth suicide risks.
  • Experience and background working with Tribal communities providing onsite and virtual training and technical assistance.
  • Beginning level understanding of trauma informed and strength-based engagement approaches.
  • Beginning knowledge of culturally appropriate intervention techniques.
  • Effective communication skills including how to summarize and convey complex information to multiple audiences.
  • Proven ability to form positive, effective, and culturally competent relationships with clients and team members.
  • Good interpersonal communication and comfort with public speaking.
  • Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and deliver quality results under tight deadlines, with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both individually and in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, zoom, other virtual engagement tools and SharePoint.

Education and experience:

  • High School diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Some experience (substance abuse prevention, suicide prevention, tribal youth suicide prevention, mental health, etc.).
  • Licensure or certification in related area highly preferred.
  • Previous work in American Indian/Alaska Native communities required.
