USGBC is seeking an Analyst, Building Performance and Decarbonization to join our Technical Development Team. The Technical Development Team is responsible for executing the ongoing maintenance and evolutionary development of the of the rating systems and technical products managed by USGBC to hasten market transformation towards a more sustainable future. The body of work associated with this ongoing effort is achieved through collaborative engagement with internal and external subject matter experts, thoughtful research, and dynamic responses to market drivers. This team provides technical expertise in specific topic areas to ensure a position of market leadership is maintained by all technical products and rating systems.
This position’s primary focus will be providing technical development expertise regarding current greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting protocols, ESG framework integration, and building performance scoring methodologies to apply to USGBC’s products and tools. The role will create and maintain performance-based scoring and analytics to assess and encourage high performance in buildings, portfolios, cities and communities. This includes tools utilized in support of the Arc platform and the LEED rating systems, as well as other USGBC products related to high-performance. Considering the increased global focus and sense of urgency in the sustainability of the built environment, as well as rapid advancements in related disciplines and technologies, we believe this is a an essential and very exciting opportunity to join the Technical Development Team.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise for the ongoing development and optimization USGBC and GBCI products including tools directly utilized by Arc, the LEED rating systems, and other offerings.
- Perform data collection and analysis and manage large datasets and create visualizations that effectively summarize technical results.
- Maintain fluency with global greenhouse gas accounting protocols, ESG reporting frameworks, building performance standards and other high-performance building frameworks.
- Work collaboratively to build scoring and benchmarking tools and reporting and optimize these across product offerings.
- Stay abreast of new and developing industry issues, trends, scientific research, technologies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards / publications etc.
- Review literature, conduct research, and synthesize findings into concise and well-written summaries.
- Execute project management activities related to technical standard development and maintenance.
- Provide expert guidance in coordination with other departments to support projects pursuing certification and provide an optimized user experience.
Experience & Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required in business, architecture, engineering, mathematics, or a related building industry, environmental or other related technical studies. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years relevant professional experience.
- Ability to perform quantitative problem-solving, perform data collection and analysis, and manage large datasets.
- Technical understanding of and experience with data analysis for benchmarking and scoring buildings, greenhouse gas accounting, ESG reporting protocols, building performance standards globally.
- Experience with visualizations (graphics, dashboards, flowcharts) that effectively summarize technical information/results and writing reports for technical and general audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Microsoft Excel for complex analysis.
Desired Qualifications:
- Strong data and quantitative skills, experience with data visualization including applications such as PowerBI and Tableau.
- Knowledge of supply chains and/or supply chain GHG accounting is a plus.
- Knowledge of building energy management is a plus.
- Technical understanding of and experience with the LEED rating systems and programs.
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, as well as a strong understanding of the level of research and breadth of perspective needed to develop an acceptable solution to technical issues.
- Ability to multi-task, manage competing priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with a diverse array of individuals and constituents.
