We are looking for a Cinematics Engineer experienced with Unreal Engine’s Sequencer and related tools and systems to support the work of our Cinematics team. This role will work across teams including art, audio, narrative, gameplay, and more to create or enhance runtime systems, help build out pipelines and provide tools customizations for all forms of cinematics.
If working with a dynamic team of visual storytellers to weave cinematic magic into the fibers of an online world makes you giddy with joy, this role is for you!
About Our Team
The Engineering team at ArenaNet thrives on a wide array of perspectives, experiences, and interests. We know that the best creations come from healthy and friendly teams. Our work is woven together with the efforts of other disciplines and crafts within game development. We seek out voices and ideas that might be new to us. We are always on the lookout for ways to help each other, both within the Engineering team, and throughout the studio as a whole.
Who We Are Looking For
You, our ideal candidate, are an experienced C++ developer and have worked on cinematics run time systems and tools for a shipped game. You are comfortable with Unreal Engine’s Sequencer tool and understand common challenges of developing runtime systems to support cinematics in games such as loading paradigms of level sequences, relative vs absolute timing of sequential elements in Sequencer, and more.
Cinematics in a multiplayer environment presents unique challenges. While you may not have solved these specific issues before, your experience as a Cinematics Engineer has provided the foundation for stepping up to this next level, and you are eager to take it on.
Listening and communication skills is, at this point in your career, natural to you. You use your strong listening skills to understand design goals and can creatively synthesize solutions for those goals based on your experience and the capabilities of the engine. You use your strong communication skills to present those options in a way that makes sense to artists and designers and other teammates.
You are comfortable working with both technical and non-technical colleagues to develop good practices, technical constraints, and team standards. You are always endeavoring to improve processes, tools, and workflows to maintain the quality and stability of the work produced across disciplines in a fast-paced environment.
Don’t meet every single requirement on this job post? Studies have shown that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At ArenaNet, we believe diversity in culture, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and backgrounds make us a better team – we celebrate it. So, if you’re excited about this role, but your experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification listed, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
