Niyam is seeking a GIS Project Manager in support of our work with FEMA. We offer competitive compensation and benefits. This position is remote, but may require some travel.  The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a deep understanding of geospatial data, data science, and emerging technologies. This role requires the ability to gather and analyze requirements, design and implement innovative solutions, and contribute to the development of cutting-edge geospatial applications. 

 

Role and Responsibilities:

Project Management: Take ownership of projects, manage timelines, resources, and budgets, ensuring that deliverables are met on time and within budget.
Requirement Gathering: Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and define technical and business requirements for projects.
Innovative Solution Development: Design and develop innovative solutions using the latest technologies and methodologies.
Proof-of-Concept Projects: Lead proof-of-concept projects from ideation through to production, ensuring scalability and ROI.
Geospatial Data Management: Manage, analyze, and visualize geospatial data to support various projects and initiatives.
Spatial Analysis: Apply spatial analysis techniques to derive insights and drive decision-making processes.
Technology Thought Leadership: Provide insights and guidance on emerging technology trends and methodologies.
Emerging Technology Integration: Stay current with trends in the geospatial and tech space. Implement new tools and technologies that enhance our capabilities.
Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including GIS analysts, data scientists, and software developers, to achieve project goals.
Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all developed solutions.
Data Visualization: Create compelling visualizations to communicate data-driven insights effectively.
Documentation & Writing: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all developed solutions, ensuring clarity and accuracy. Strong writing skills are essential for creating technical reports, guides, and user manuals.


Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Must be a US citizen and eligible for security clearance.
  • 10 years of experience in GIS, advanced and emerging technologies, data science, or a related field.
  • Expertise in geospatial data management tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS). 
  • Strong understanding of data science techniques, data wrangling/manipulation, and data visualization.
  • Demonstrated experience with emerging technologies such as AI/ML, blockchain, or IoT within a geospatial context.
  • Expertise in spatial analysis methods and tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proven track record of developing innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts into clear, actionable insights.
  • Ability to create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all developed solutions.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

• Familiarity with hydraulic modeling.
• Familiarity with FEMA RiskMAP and flood plain mapping.
• Familiarity with natural disaster risk assessment and mitigation modeling applied approaches.
• Proficient in programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript).
• Advanced Degree: Master’s degree in GIS, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Proficiency with cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, and tools such as JIRA, Git, and Subversion.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications in GIS, cloud platforms, data science, or emerging technologies.
