They are on a mission to democratize engagement, enabling over a million businesses to keep users—whether they are readers, players, shoppers, or fans—engaged and up to date with their product through seamless messaging experiences.

Our client supports businesses in 140 countries, from small startups to well-established companies, delivering billions of messages daily. They’re backed by major venture capital firms and offer flexible work options across the US, UK, and Singapore.

What’s the Role?

Our client is seeking a Design Engineer to work on the UX and UI of their messaging platform, used by millions of developers. You’ll collaborate closely with designers, engineers, and product managers to create more intuitive and delightful user experiences. This role is perfect for someone who loves both coding and design and isn’t sure whether to call themselves a designer or frontend engineer.

The ideal candidate has a “ship it” mentality, an eye for pixel perfection, and is passionate about building easy-to-use products. You’ll be someone who leverages data to inform design decisions, deeply cares about UI quality, and thrives in collaborative environments.

What You’ll Do

  • Work directly on the UI and UX of the client’s web products.
  • Partner with designers to develop the company’s design system.
  • Review designs in Figma to assist designers in preparing for development.
  • Work with engineers to implement components and apply UI polish to products.
  • Review code to help improve UI quality and reduce technical debt.
  • Advocate for accessibility (a11y), semantics, and design system best practices.
  • Document components and UX patterns for use by both designers (in Figma) and engineers (in Storybook and other tools).
  • Create prototypes and tools to speed up product discovery and execution.
  • Bring an engineering perspective to design, highlighting feasibility issues and identifying edge cases.
  • Foster collaboration between design and engineering teams, acting as a bridge between both.

What You’ll Bring

  • 2+ years of experience working on web platforms.
  • Strong design skills, particularly in accessibility and interaction design.
  • A deep understanding of user experience (UX) principles.
  • Experience building design systems and a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Portfolio showcasing design process and past projects.
  • Mastery of design and prototyping tools (Figma preferred).
  • Familiarity with the technical aspects of modern apps and design requirements.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (React and TypeScript preferred).
  • Proven experience designing and shipping projects from start to finish.
