Job description

The Sr Manager SAP Security & Basis Administration is responsible for managing, and operating hands on with the SAP Basis and Security teams, developing their skills and capabilities to meet the needs of the organization, as well as building on existing capabilities to address emerging technical needs and skill gaps. This role combines expertise in SAP Basis administration and SAP security, ensuring system stability, performance, and compliance with security policies. This role leads a combination of onsite and remote resources, across multiple technology stacks, collaborating with ad-hoc work teams comprised of SAP technical resources and partners, as well as cross-functional business team members and functional leads to ensure optimize the SAP landscape, secure data and support business operations. An experienced leader who is equally at home with Enterprise Applications development projects and people management, this person should be capable of delivering highly complex projects and comfortable and proficient working directly with the business and/or project management. This person will be responsible for landscape architecture and technical design best practice. In this role, you will guide technical disciplines, oversee technical solution design, proactively manage the systems landscape and architecture and build a highly effective team. Responsible for the development and administration of user access rights on computer systems running SAP software. The position may require advanced SAP software knowledge and a full understanding of security roles as they relate to SAP user profiles.

Accountable for performing security audits and analyze user profiles to maintain proper software configuration settings. Job duties may include creating new security profiles, monitoring configuration changes, and ensuring users have proper authorization to perform tasks. May also assist other team members in defining new security policies and procedures.

Job Duties :

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Strategy and Planning:

  • Provide technical leadership and is responsible for reviewing and further evolving development standards, framework, guidelines and approach
  • Oversight and responsibility for design, development, performance validation and testing methodologies to ensure technical solutions meet quality requirements.
  • Establish processes and procedures associated with the creation and modification of SAP security roles, user accounts, test environments and the like.
  • Design enhancement for SAP-related internal controls such as role-based security, segregation of duties, etc.
  • Ensure that activities are in regulatory compliance
  • Perform periodic reviews/analysis of SAP-related segregation of duties, and access to sensitive data

Acquisition & Deployment:

  • Evaluate and recommend tools and technologies used to manage and monitor security roles and access rights in SAP.
  • Support SAP deployment to plants not currently running SAP
  • Provide consistent level of service and problem resolution, through the management of tickets and systems issues, performance of root cause analysis, and installation of learnings to prevent reoccurrence of prior issues.
  • Oversees quality of deliverables (including design, code and development reviews) and follows the stipulated change control processes and release/transport management schedules.
  • Manages resource allocation, capacity utilization and delivery of SAP Basis and Security resources

Project Support:

  • SAP role definition and assignment
  • Provide guidance and best practice recommendations for SAP projects
  • Review developer code for appropriate security checks
  • Create and change security configurations to meet project goals
  • Configure security in testing environments.
  • Provide direction to vendor to fix defects found during testing.
  • Coordinate production go-lives with security reps, developers and business owners
  • Manage all deployment activities related to SAP security
  • Manager off hours support for project go-live activities
  • Provide security design of SAP support pack/upgrade projects

Day to Day Activities:

Oversee/Manage/Supervise/Direct and perform vendor activites related to:

  • Creating/changing SAP roles
  • Creating/modifying custom authorization objects
  • Troubleshooting security problems
  • Manage security landscape changes
  • Manage all SAP system users and passwords
  • Manage all OSS security including developer keys and object keys
  • Managing 3rd party vendors and delivery of services

SAP Basis Administration:

  • System Management : Oversee the installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of SAP systems, including ECC, S/4HANA, BW, PI, Portal, Solution Manager, and other SAP landscapes.
  • Performance Optimization : Continuously monitor system performance, implement tuning solutions, and ensure systems run at optimal levels with minimal downtime.
  • Upgrades & Patch Management : Manage SAP software upgrades, enhancement packs, and patch management to ensure systems are current and compliant with business requirements.
  • Database & OS Management : Coordinate with database administrators and infrastructure teams to manage underlying databases and operating systems, ensuring their integration and performance with SAP systems.
  • Disaster Recovery & Backup: Develop and maintain SAP system backup, recovery, and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.

SAP Security Management:

  • Security Administration: Manage and oversee SAP security operations, including the design, configuration, and administration of user roles and profiles across all SAP environments.
  • Access Control & Compliance: Ensure proper access control mechanisms are in place and that SAP systems comply with internal security policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX, GDPR).
  • Security Audits: Conduct regular audits of SAP systems to identify and resolve security vulnerabilities, segregation of duties (SoD) conflicts, and unauthorized access.
  • Incident Management: Respond to and resolve SAP security incidents, working closely with internal teams and external partners to mitigate risks.
  • Security Enhancements : Proactively assess and implement security measures to address evolving threats and protect sensitive business data within SAP systems.

Knowledge of:

  • Strong leadership capability, executing as appropriate in the areas of responsibility
  • Broad knowledge of current and emerging technologies, technology directions, and strategic application to business needs, including the ability to differentiate between a relevant trend and hype

Provide personal, peer-to-peer, and purchased internal training for all staff members. Conduct personnel evaluations and provide guidance on achieving their goals throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with various functional departments, other IT departments, and the leadership team to define organizational goals and provide updates on application and system enhancements.

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 7 years of professional experience
  • 7+ years of SAP Security and Basis experience (hands on or management) in an environment with ECC6, SAP portal, BW, and BPC.
  • 7+ years of management experience with application architecture, design and implementation

Skills:

Technical:

  • Landscape Architecture for SAP and non-SAP environments hosted on prem and in the cloud
  • ABAP development experience in SAP ECC6 a plus
  • Experience with SAP Archiving
  • Strong knowledge of SAP security concepts
  • Strong knowledge of SAP Basis administration and demonstrated experience managing a Basis team
  • Good understanding of several functional areas such as FI, SD, MM, PP, QM, and WM
  • Understanding of role-based security implementations
  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, especially sections 302 and 404.
  • Solid understanding of assessing and designing internal controls as they relate to SAP
  • Experience with controls monitoring solutions
  • Understanding of identity management solutions
  • Understanding of security risk assessment principles
