Job description

Regional Coordinator, Rising Scholars Network
Remote within Assigned Region, Must reside in California

The Foundation is the trusted partner of the California Community Colleges— facilitating collaboration, accelerating innovation, and increasing system wide resources. The Foundation’s Success Center for California Community Colleges is looking for an individual to join our team who has experience in criminal justice and higher education to lead the Rising Scholars Network (RSN). The Rising Scholars Network is an assembly of California Community Colleges committed to serving incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students by providing degree-granting programs in correctional facilities and on-campus support for students who have experienced the criminal justice system. We partner with every community college to build strong pathways from incarceration to higher education.

What You’ll Do

The Rising Scholars team actively works to incorporate the unique needs of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students as an equity initiative in the California Community College system by collecting and developing resources to help partners gain deeper understanding of and incorporate the unique needs of incarcerated and formerly incarcerated students into their programs. This includes advocating for the colleges and working with corrections partners to reach solutions, building resources for prospective students, and fostering a shared learning environment and a joint commitment to quality among members of the Rising Scholars Network.

  • Execute regional strategies focused on enhancing certificate and degree completion rates, facilitating baccalaureate transfers, and supporting community college baccalaureate degree attainment for justice-involved students.
  • Identify, develop, and share challenges and solutions across the assigned regions to meet students’ needs.
  • Facilitate the development of materials, resources, and tools for use in colleges, prisons, and jails.
  • In coordination with the Assistant Director and RSN leadership, implement targeted outreach campaigns to engage community organizations, advocacy groups, and potential participants in the Rising Scholars Network initiatives by developing and implementing a comprehensive influencer mapping strategy to identify and cultivate relationships with key thought leaders and community advocates.
  • Meet regularly either in person or remotely with the Director and/or Assistant Director(s) and other Regional Coordinators to achieve Vision 2030 goals as they apply to currently and formerly incarcerated students.
  • Assist the Foundation and Chancellor’s Office in gathering the required information necessary to prepare any needed reports to the Legislature and/or Board of Governors on the Rising Scholars Network Program.
  • Align the colleges to statewide and regional initiatives and resources, including Guided Pathways, AB 705 implementation, Dual Enrollment and efforts to meet equity goals.
  • Report monthly on the work of students, staff, faculty, and administrators for Rising Scholars students

Attributes for Success

  • Familiarity with pathways and/or interventions that support student success including improved transition from incarceration into the workforce, course-sequencing, program and pathway design, industry-aligned competencies and credentials, and acceleration in developmental education.
  • Knowledge and substantial experience working with incarcerated populations and rehabilitation, education, and workforce development partners in the assigned region.
  • Knowledge of evidence based equity strategies to remediate gaps in access, support, and success.
  • Successful experience in managing and leading complex and diverse projects.
  • We’re recruiting for mission-driven, passionate, equity-minded individuals with a strong desire to impact and change people’s lives for the better
  • Our work holds great weight and responsibility, and the opportunity to impact the lives of millions
  • Innovation, creativity, collaboration, and entrepreneurship are encouraged as employees work to achieve organizational goals

  • We have a commitment to professional development and an emphasis on shared leadership, to ensure growth for employees and the organization overall
