Job description

Carnival UK is the operating company for P&O Cruises & Cunard. We provide world class cruise holidays and take enormous pride from bringing to life two of the most iconic brands from Britain’s rich seafaring heritage. That legacy of elegance and style, of beautiful ships, inspiring leadership and guest-obsessed service excellence lives on today, as we evolve ourselves for tomorrow.

Working at Carnival UK/P&O Cruises/Cunard means being part of a tight-knit but truly global team made up of friendly, happy, caring people. Parts of our business are incredibly diverse, but we work hard every day to promote even greater inclusion, fresh ideas and different perspectives. Whatever our role or background, we share high standards, heartfelt values and a sense of belonging. We’re focused on wellbeing every day, as well as being supportive and compassionate when we need it most.

As a growing business we have a big focus on developing skills and continuous learning. From formal qualification to the life lessons of worldwide travel, we offer our people a broad range of personal and professional development opportunities. All of our roles give people the chance to stretch themselves and learn from colleagues with a wealth of experience. As our business grows, we want our people to grow too. So we’re determined to create opportunities for everyone to drive their development and define their own career path.

Due to our company expanding and our current fleet growing, we are preparing by recruiting for Environmental Officers for our Talent Pool.

At P&O Cruises and Cunard, we are all committed to environmental compliance and we are looking for driven shipboard Environmental Officers to help us continue this. You will play an important role in our commitment to environmental legislation, protective and preventative measures and the education of our people. This is an exciting opportunity that allows you to work with a passionate community of people while visiting different places, explore new worlds and gain experiences that stay with you for a lifetime.

With safety and compliance at the heart of what we do, you will lead by example ensuring all departments are aware of their environmental responsibilities, effectively dealing with areas of concern and carefully managing the environmental impacts of all tasks under your leadership.

You’ll proactively check, monitor and support shipboard operations to prevent or detect non-compliance. You will also train and support shipboard employees to maintain environmental compliance in accordance with environmental legislation and company policies and procedures, and support the company’s ISO14001 and sustainability programs.

We are looking for people who have the following background or qualification criteria:

  • Served as a Marine Engineering Officer with a minimum rank of 2nd Engineer or higher.
  • Served as a Deck Officer with a minimum rank of 2nd Officer or higher.
  • Former Navy or Coast Guard engineer who has achieved Chief Petty Officer Rank or higher.
  • Shoreside Engineers with experience operating and/or maintaining pollution prevention systems like those found on cruise ships with at least three (3) years of relevant experience and an engineering degree or higher.
  • Have an environmental science related degree with at least three (3) years of relevant industry experience.

You will have management experience and good leadership skills with a proactive and positive approach to protecting the environment. Experience of environmental compliance, risk assessments, environmental audits, report writing as well as having a marine technical or engineering background will help you to be a success in this role. Initiative is important to this role as you will need to quickly understand what needs to be done and anticipate what’s needed as you work with integrity and strive for high standards.

If you have the qualifications and experience we are looking for why not further your career with a role at sea? We will make sure you have a full training induction, support & guidance to help make you a success in a new role onboard.

If you are successful in being offered a role we will ask that you complete your STCW Basic Training to ensure you are well prepared for your new role at sea. Our teams will be able to support you in arranging training and explaining what’s needed.

Crew are recommended to be up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccinations prior to joining a ship, if available.

With our fleet ever changing we are planning for the future, this means that the role you are applying for is in our Talent Pool.
