Position Purpose
Strategic Analysts serve as a foundation for fundraising and alumni relations initiatives across Dartmouth, including the President’s Office and the professional schools, and are responsible for creating, managing, analyzing, and driving all prospect and donor data-mining efforts to help meet operating and capital fundraising goals, and extend institutional relationships.

- Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three plus years’ experience in development or similar industry
- Proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Office, databases, and internet searches
- Excellent research, problem solving, and analytical skills, including ability to analyze and interpret business and financial data and information
- High level of initiative and follow through with the ability to organize work, meet/negotiate deadlines, coordinate projects with others, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong writing skills with the ability to compose concise, focused research documents with attention to accuracy and detail to support identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship processes
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, and negotiation skills with the ability to motivate and work effectively with groups and individuals
- Sound judgment, tact and discretion in handling confidential information
Preferred Qualifications
- Formal instruction in or knowledge of business, financial analysis, statistical methods, information systems, techniques of corporate and biographical research and report writing
- Demonstrated experience in prospect research (or related field), data analysis, advanced analytical tools and databases, internet resources, and other references
- Specialized training in research methodology, or equivalent

Key Accountabilities
Description
Proactively identifies, evaluates, and monitors prospects, volunteers, and board members (individuals, corporations, foundations) in support of institutional priorities and fundraising goals through the continuous review and analysis of business publications, online services, annual questionnaires, internal data, and other sources. Uses standard wealth assessment formulas and internal data to evaluate gift capacity, rate prospects, and prepare concise written reports, prospect profiles, briefings, summaries, rankings, assessments and other documents that include detailed biographical information, giving trends and analysis, fully developed financial analysis (net worth/asset analysis) and estimated giving capacity. Researches, compiles, and analyzes financial information including stock holdings, salaries and other forms of compensation, future earnings, in-depth proxy analysis, competitive business intelligence, and projections of profitability and liquidity. Works on special projects related to research and assists in the identification and use of new products, methodologies, online databases, and software that will create team efficiencies through innovation. Develops expertise in specific industries and regions and prepares summaries, reports, presentations and biographical sketches for use in meetings and events by divisional and institutional leadership and constituencies while serving as an internal liaison/consultant/resource.

Description
Partners with frontline fundraisers in creating, building, and managing portfolios within a robust prospect pipeline while providing a metric-driven approach to meet fundraising goals, including optimization of current processes and complex problem-solving. Attends project and prospect reviews designed to identify prospects and create cultivation, solicitation, and donor relations strategies, and participates in various regional and Advancement-wide meetings to ensure research needs are being met.
Provides data, research, in-depth analyses, and leads discussions about prospect pools, individual capacity, philanthropic interests, and inclination to enhance the collaboration of development officers in creating strategic partnerships for the identification and cultivation of principal, major, and annual gift prospects. Assists development officers in creating and revising a solicitation plan for donors through the relationship cycle and advises officers of interdisciplinary campus relationships, interests, capacity and other areas which influence or impact cultivation and solicitation strategies.

Description
Serves as liaison to various offices, including all professional schools and campus partners, and directly collaborates with alumni volunteers during reunion planning process to generate prospect pools, assess ratings and reunion ask amounts. Shares knowledge of current trends in philanthropy and higher education and provides consultative services and orientation sessions on research methodologies and resources to Advancement staff. Ensures all data is managed with the highest level of sensitivity and maintains information based on policies and procedures.
